You completely jumped about twelve levels of logic and reason to "win" the discussion.

this here too. how is Idie sexually abused here? how is that even suggested. it ain't like some creepy 45-year-old dressed as a cat tied her up in the back of a van and molested her. Kilgore's what? 11? he gave her a dress, which she put on, and then got so nervous he asked her to kiss him on the cheek if she felt like it.

is the fact that a 14-year-old is dressed like that in the book worrisome? on certain levels, yeah certainly. but I've seen junior high debate teams that can make more cogent points for why than this.

If that girl were several years older I could freely give a comment but I won't due to the underage issue.

That's a problem because she's in an outfit that, regardless of story context, is meant to appeal to the reader in a sexual way. In terms of semiotics, it's a clear signal of fetishism and sexuality, and to long-term X-Men readers also is meant to remind them of the Jean Grey Hellfire club story where she was clearly abused mentally and physically--and to me as a young reader, I was sure the undertones in the original story were that Mastermind was sexually abusing Jean as well. It was a serious story, but everyone in it were adults.

Since it's done so deliberately here there's really no question the writer meant to convey all that, and I think it's mildly disgusting to deliberately do that to your readers and place a 14 year old in that greater out-of-story context. If I were reading the book, I'd be pissed off at the writer.

Luckily, the book is garbage anyway and I'm not. By the way, how did a 14 year old manage to figure out how to put on a corset by herself anyway??

Mastermind is deformed, how can we know for sure his sexual organs are fully functional? I think it's clear that Jean was metally abused but that's it. I'm quite sure there was no physical contact between them. Besides, the Phoenix Force wouldn't allow that, right?

I might. And I will (I'm a big Claremont / Byrne fan anyway).
Besides, this was during the "Approved by the Comics Code Authority" era. I'm sure sexual abuse would never have been permitted.

I think its smart and interesting to take on a teenager's view of sexuality...if done right. I think we are too conditioned as society to STEER CLEAR of anything involving young teens and their thoughts on sex, because apparently tackling that subject instantly sexualizes them in a distasteful way. I always appreciate it when media tackles the fact that, yes, 14 year olds do think about sex, when done in a tasteful way.

On the flip side, that drawing doesn't look anything like an actual teenager, and does go to lengths to make her look far older and mature than she should be/is.

Should writers not be allowed to publish material about sexually abused teenagers? Or any sexual taboo for that matter?

Its easy to say, "NO WAY" to stories about teenagers using and understanding their sexuality........but it happens...a lot. There could be a lot of interesting stories about that side of things, if done tastefully.

It still counts as kiddie porn in many jurisdictions.
