The final three pages of this issue went like this:

A Pyramoid, one of the goal pieces in the game between the Gamesmaster and the Challenger appeared in the hospital room occupied by Edwin Jarvis just as he was waking up from a coma. The Beast and the current Wasp were present in the room. Voyager appeared seconds after the Pyramoid.

Jarvis: I...I can finally move, can *koff* speak.

Wasp: Jarvis stay still, you need time...

Jarvis: No, I could hear you... the whole time, every word, and something is terribly wrong. Someone, someone is...

Beast: Hold that thought sir, we're still in danger.

Voyager: Don't worry Hank, I'll handle this.

Beast: Oh thank you! God I most definitely believe in you at the moment! It's Voyager!

Voyager then formed an energy barrier around the Pyramoid

Wasp: How did this team manage without her! She's awesome! Be careful Voyager!

Jarvis: No! That's what I've been trying to... Listen to me! Don't you see?! You've all been tricked! Your deepest memories have been altered! There is no Valerie Vector! There's is no Voyager!

Beast with a stunned look on his face: You're right, inside your mind Voyager was never there.

Wasp: I don't understand, it's so vivid.

Jarvis: No Nadia, it's all a lie! Whoever that woman is , she's not an Avenger! She never was!

At this point Voyager, with an evil smirk on her face, disappears with the Pyramoid.

Wasp: So then, who is she?

Beast: Someone who stole the final Pyramoid, and might have damned us all.

so there it is. There is no retcon where it comes to Voyager.

Yeah, that's what i was thinking as I was writing it all down. It's been a fun story, but I can't defend that dialogue.

Agreed. If your memories were altered, you wouldn't remember your original memories.

The founding Avengers statue, a time displaced character that readers have never seen before, Jarvis alone in knowing the truth - all wrapped in a story with writing by Mark Waid.

Now where have I seen this before?

Wait a sec! I know where...

To be fair to Waid, No Surrender is being written by the three men unit of Waid, Al Ewing and Jim Zub. I've read enough stuff from both Waid and Ewing to trust that they're both better writers than that dialogue. Zub on the other hand; having read his Thunderbolts, I'm all to aware of just how capable he is of writing dialogue that bad.

When they said this was cowritten by Mark Waid, I didn't expect them to mean "we basically tweaked one of his stories from 22 years ago", but there ya go.

"History Repeats Itself" indeed... 8)

All that said... Was it a good read?

Most boring generic hero ever. Give me an MU where Luke Cage is the strongest and no one can run or fly faster than 600 mph. Now that would be interesting.
