Which is a good thing, I missed a lot the first time around (I still like Pluto better though :p)

I have a hard time believing that you'll feel the same way once you get deeper into it.

It's sooo much more intricate than Pluto.

Just picked this up today:

Image

Seven spine-tingling stories from Italy's best-selling comic book, collected and available in English for the first time in nearly a decade!

When zombies roam the streets of London, the lines between human and monster begin to blur, and nightmares run roughshod over waking life, there's only one man to call: a clarinet-playing, lovelorn detective named Dylan Dog.

Dylan Dog's not your average PI, but then again, these aren't exactly your average cases....

I read the first story already.. this is great stuff.

I think 20th Century Boys and Pluto are both very different and hard to compare, the only reason I'm leaning towards liking pluto more is because I've read the second volume I think.

This week I've read:

Image

I'm a big old school transformers fan, but I never gave the comics a chance thought I'd start with this.

Image

This is one of the first comics I ever read as a kid, and to me it was always the origin I knew of superman.

Image

This book surpasses all expectations with each volume.

Image

I originally got the first three issues of this when it first came out, I have to say this trade was a lot better than I remember those issues being. Does anyone know which direction the next volume is going in?

and finally...

Image

When I first picked this up and looked at the art I really thought I wouldn't like it, but I gave it a chance and I really digged the mini stories, and there's really just something about it that makes you want to read more of this book.

So, yeah, Bayou is another review getting book and I am polishing the 20th Century review so instead I started and am 4/5's of the way through...
Image
It and Pluto Volume 3 were beckoning me, but Bayou will have to take precedence.
Image
After Pluto, I will be reading a reader's copy of
Image
This is by the guy who wrote and drew that Stuff of Life I couldn't get through a while back, hopefully this will not put me to sleep, cause I like his art style and sense of humor. More info here
then I will be tackling this monster:

So I started reading this last night and read the first 3 issues. Wow. Just wow, this is so well written and great art too. I honestly have to say I don't see comics like this anymore. Solid story telling with thus far a great cast of characters that really stand out and no decompression! Virgil is such a great, diverse character. A really human teenager and once again, very well written. I also love the different set of friends he surrounds himself with. Reminds me how in high school, there's a group of friends you have, not necessarily just one person you're with every day like they do with a lot of shows, books, etc.

But yeah, can't wait to finish reading the book. Sadly, when my baby sis saw me reading, she got excited but her excitement sorta shut down when I told her she couldn't read it. Some pretty powerful subject matters, dialogue, moments. My sis is a bright girl, I think I could perhaps show her the book as having to watch kids her age last summer, they're not as oblivious to these things than adults like to think.

CountD: Greg, thank you for your insights.
Benderbrau: Greg: Unwrapping the riddles of the black man since 2006

Starlord: I swear if you were gay and I wasn't married we'd make the perfect fuck buddies.

Greg: I'd do many things. Coke is not one of them.
Benderbrau: Greg hates all things white.

Benderbrau: Emma, you could learn a thing or two from Greg. Greg does threesomes. That's bi done right.

So 20th Century boys was much better the second time. I still like Pluto better Chris, sorry, it speaks to some of my fanboyisms more.

Bayou was AMAZING!!!

Vagabond just gets better and better and I am confused, cause I kind of think Amlah thinks it is light and while it does read really quick, it is a compelling drama on top of being an actioner.

I am half way thru Pluto 3 now, it is great.

I will link to the reviews of 20th and Bayou when they are live.

I like it a lot, but I don't think it's better than any of the Urasawa stuff that I've read.

For the direction of the next "volume" of Resurrection, you can check out the FCBD zero issue. It's definitely less about the "what happens next" aspect and more about the government conspiracy aspect, it appears. Plus it's in color.

I've read the first two volumes of Black Jack and they are really great. Yes, the art is not "modern" but it tells the stories well and in it's own way is really amazing. And the stories have an amazing amount of variety and substance to them. I'm looking forward to more (and there's tons of it, I think.)

Super fun read and definitely succeeded as a sequel to WBF.

Might as well stick with Ennis for my next read as well...

Battlefields Volume 2: Dear Billy

A

wait for it

mazing.

Is no one else reading Ennis' Battlefields? I never see anyone else talking about it other than a couple of iFanboy PoW's.

I liked the first story Night Witches, but this was on a whole different level. Probably the best thing Ennis has written outside of Preacher. While it is a brutal and frank story about a British nurse in India during WWII, there's none of the Arseface/Boys style humor in it. I'd totally recommend it to anyone, especially if you're at all into war comics.

Not sure when I'll start it, but I'll be reading this next...

Star Wars: Vector Volume Two - Books 3 and 4

The first volume was better than I was expecting. Can't wait to get to the Legacy issues in this.

Been loving Battlefields and war books in general recently, dig the New Sgt Rock. Loved that Kirby Losers stuff I read a while back, can't wait for the second volume of Adams DCU so I can read some more war stuff drawn by him.

Yeah, Dear Billy was really good, I was surprised at how restrained Ennis was, it was like Atonement or something.
