Wizard no More?Rumor has it that Wizard Magazine may be closing its doors after over twenty years of covering the comics industry.

Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool is reporting that Wizard Magazine has laid off all employees and canceled all freelance engagements as it prepares to cease operation of at least the print version of its magazine. No official announcement has been released yet, and sister magazine Toy-Fare is said to be unaffected.

Wizard had plenty of chances to adapt with the times 8 years ago but didn't. They let sites like Newsarama and CBR become what they should've.

Personally, it was also WAY too Marvel-centric for my needs. Even the poster book stopped featuring any DC stuff. They may as well have been bought by Disney, too.

Though I wonder if CBG is next as comic periodicals.

They stopped doing that a long time ago and I think thats the reason they failed. Why try to be a real magazine when everything you print was already posted on the internet a month earlier? Having the juvenile humor was what I bought it for, after they stopped that I stopped buying.

The dick and fart jokes were why I stopped reading it and I was reading it regularly since issue 1 through about 100.

Hurray. Stupid Wizard. Feel sorry for people who lost their jobs, but it was embarrassing to read.

But sales have declined of late, as the internet has grown in prominence and favour for this kind of news. For many Wizard is no longer the news breaker and agenda setter of the comics industry it once was.

It's been a LONG time since I bought Wizard regularly but it's still sad to see the comic book magazine go. I still have my issues all lined up in a bookcase.

I used to pick up Wizard when I still lived at my parent's house and didn't have regular access to the internet. It seemed superfluous to read Wizard and the Rama, though. One was free and the other wasn't.

Even though it’s arguable that the last couple of years have seen some of the best Wizard content since it started.
