New Avengers 23: This stuff just blows my mind (spoilers)

Postby ElijahSnowFan » Wed Aug 20, 2014 2:56 pm

First of all: It's day of release, blah blah blah. Beware of spoilers down the line, though!

But wow. This issue. Wow. So many things to talk about, so many little things...it's hard to even wrap my mind around everything that Hickman's done to these characters, and again: I think he's played fair with them all.

What a series. I don't even know how to describe the emotional beats of this issue, because if you've followed all of it all along...it's just overwhelming, where they are now.

Because make no mistake: The Illuminati is absolutely effed. And now the Cabal is on the loose, and man...it's all jacked up, now.

As soon as Black Bolt asked "Where's Namor?" i said "duh.... wait... oh shit!"

Then as Namor was giving "the speech" i knew it would be some new Cabal. Holy crap what an issue.

It really was. The issue was amazing, because just as I totally saw both sides of the "Cyclops was right" vs. "The Avengers are right," I totally can see both sides of this.

That's right: I'm not saying that Namor is wrong. I don't know that he is. I've gone back and forth, and I am glad that Hickman has made me ask these questions.

I mean, it's a comic book, for God's sake. But it's still been extremely interesting asking myself what I would have done.

When the hell did Thanos get out of the pocket limbo? That Thanos OGN a few weeks back?

Also "Here in Latveria, Doom demands that children always get a good night's sleep." made me laugh. Why is Hickman's Doom so darn amusing?

The Cabal isn't too much of a shock, considering the preview art.

Yeah, when did illuminati jail get broken out of by most of that crew?

I'm sure Maximus blowing air into the amber with his micro laser in #19 had something to do with the illuminati jail failing

Yeah, I'm pretty much certain that the first move Namor made when he got told to leave last issue was to go find a crew that would help him destroy worlds -- he knew the Illuminati wasn't gonna do it.

Again...man, it's hard to say Namor's COMPLETELY wrong. I mean, wow. He feels he has a right to live, a right to exist. Yes, it's "comic book scenarios," but man, it's hard for me to picture myself telling someone else who feels that way that, "No, you have the means to live, but you have to let yourself die."

What a tough, interesting thought process.

Fanboys with short attention spans - the bane of long-game writers like Hickman and Morrison.

Considering I download, read and then delete if it didn't stand out, it didn't stand out. Especially since I last saw thanos in stasis and now is isn't.

Just read this issue and ESF, you are so right. GREAT issue!!!

Usually I find Hickman's stuff bloated with shit and tangents but this issue was A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

Wow, mind BLOWN!

Hickman's storylines always go this way.

This issue was one of the big payoffs.

I agree that the last page was an amazing payoff. Sadly this is my last issue of this series. Hickman is great for these moments, but he takes so long getting there. I find I enjoy the moments, but not the journey getting to them. Since the journey makes up the majority of the issues of any series he writes, I just can't justify continuing spending money on his work.

To those of you who are continuing, enjoy. :)
