107. Purifiers (31 points)
In retrospect, I should’ve added the points for William Stryker and the Purifiers as one. Whoops. Call it a brain fart on my part, anywho...
The Purifiers were originally disciples of Reverend William Stryker, whose agenda is based on an extreme version of Christian fundamentalism. Stryker and his Purifiers believed mutants to be an abomination against God, and a manifestation of the Devil's evil influence on the world.
Under Stryker's leadership, the Purifiers were successful enough to capture Professor X during an attack on the X-Men, which also resulted in the deaths of several mutant children. This forced the X-Men to unite with their chief adversary, Magneto, in an effort to defend themselves and free their mentor. In the end, Stryker was shot and arrested by authorities. Afterwards, the Purifiers disbanded for a time.
Eventually, William Stryker was released from prison. While out he discovered the whereabouts of the futuristic Sentinel called Nimrod. Stryker used Nimrod in order to witness the affects of M-Day months before it actually happened. Using knowledge of the future gained from the Sentinel's memory system Stryker also saved several human lives, and suggested those incidences were "miracles". This enabled him to re-energize support for the Purifiers, and he recruited many new members.
In the wake of M-Day, and the decimation of the mutant population, Stryker and his forces engaged in brutal attacks on the remaining mutants. Their belief was that God did his part on M-Day, and that it was their job to finish his work by killing the rest. Among their victims were junior X-Men, Wallflower and Icarus, the former of which was killed by Matthew Risman. Matthew would eventually become the new leader of the Purifiers after Stryker himself was killed by Elixir of the New X-Men.
Matthew Risman's Purifiers are currently one of three groups engaged in a race against time to find the Baby Mutant born since M-Day. The other two are Mr. Sinister's Marauders, and the X-Men. Each group has its own agenda regarding the child. Also, since losing his powers, Rictor of X-Factor Investigation's is now a member of the Purifiers, but secretly spying on them for the X-Men.
They are now the primary targets of the newly formed X-Force. They recently took hold of one of its members, Wolfsbane. When the X-Force took her back, they didn't know that they gave some mind-control where Wolfsbane attack Angel and ripped out his wings. Wolfsbane gave them to Risman, in turn, he extracted the techo-organic strain from Angel's wings when he used to be Apocalypse's Horseman of Death. Risman use the strain to make an army of "angels" called the Choir, that will eradicate the remaining mutants.
106. Blob (31 points)
Fred J. Dukes' mutation manifest in a massive weight gain when he reached puberty. Thinking himself as nothing more than "an extra-strong freak," Dukes joined a traveling carnival. It was at the carnival that the X-Men in their civilian identities approached Dukes to join their cause. Attracted to Jean Grey he immediately accepted the offer. Meeting with Professor Xavier at his New York school, Dukes refused membership in the X-Men - necessitating that Professor X erase his knowledge of the team.
Escaping the X-Men with the knowledge of the nature of his powers, Dukes returned to the carnival - believing himself superior to normal humans. Assuming control of the carnival Dukes decided to assault the X-Men and loot their mansion of its weapons and technology in a quest to rule over others as the Blob.
105. Holocaust (32 points)
"From the Age of Apocalypse came this fella. His design ruled, as did the deed he accomplished in that reality. He killed the Scarlet Witch. The murderous act resonated with Magneto and the X-Men until the final battle. Even when he came to the 616, he continued on his path of fiendish deeds, murdering several of Magneto's Acolytes (including former New Mutant, Rusty) and bringing down Avalon. He then went on to battle X-Men, X-Force, and even the Avengers. But alas his very name (several groups complained about it) and being written by Jeph Loeb proved to be his downfall as Marvel subjected him to limbo. Then he made a minor return in the AoA anniversary, only to perish a month later being inhaled by King Hyperion. A sad end to what was a truly fun villain."
Spawned in the future of an alterative timeline the son of the ancient mutant Apocalypse was known as Nemesis. Attacking the X-Men's base on Wundagore Mountain he was repelled by Rogue and the Scarlet Witch, but at the cost of the Scarlet Witch's life. Enraged over the death of his daughter, Magneto almost killed Nemesis.
Badly wounded Nemesis was placed within an energy containment armor. Rising within the ranks of his father's army Nemesis became the Horseman known as Holocaust.
104. Quicksilver (32 points)
"I like him as a hero and villain. Continually trying to not live in his fathers shadow but constantly finds himself there. Arrogant and insecure. Son of M/Silent War/X-Factor has upped my interest in him. He’s Layla Miller's archenemy. And who wants to be on her bad side!"
We all know his history as a Brotherhood member, then Avengers, then X-Factor. So I will just post stuff about his last few years, which is what some of you voted for. Pietro was vacationing, “reading a book”, when the Scarlet Witch went insane and attacked the Avengers, killing three of them including her husband. While the Avengers and X-Men met with Professor X and Doctor Strange to discuss Wanda’s fate. Pietro became convinced that the assembled group was going to kill her and rushed to Genosha and begged for Magneto’s aid. Defeated and out of options, Magneto could not think of what to do. Pietro convinced the Scarlet Witch to remake the world into the House of M reality in which everyone had their fondest wishes granted. Most importantly their father, who received the global power he had long desired over a world in which the mutant population was the ascending majority. Pietro served his father as a loyal prince. When the deception was revealed, Magneto went into a terrible rage, beating Pietro to death. Wanda restored her brother to life, but then took his power away with 99% of the mutant population when she uttered the fatal phrase “No more mutants.”
Depowered and suicidal, Crystal brought Pietro to Attilan to recover. After he did, Pietro snuck into the Terrigen Mists chamber to regain his powers. Instead, he received the ability to travel in time. He stole pieces of the Terrigen crystals and he exposed Luna to them repeatedly, granting her empathic abilities. He then proclaimed himself a “Savior” of mutant kind, setting up shop in Mutant Town and promising to restore the powers of the mutants who had lost theirs on M-Day. What he did not inform his clients however, was that the crystals did not restore mutant powers safely and many people died as a result of Pietro’s “treatments”. The Inhumans visited Quicksilver in order to reclaim the crystals, but Pietro revealed that he had worked with the crystals so much, they became embedded in his skin. At that time, Crystal told Quicksilver that their marriage was annulled. After several deaths, Rictor used his temporarily restored powers to eject the crystals from Pietro body, depowering him once again. Pietro later saved Layla Miller from drowning, because he planned on killing her himself, for being the cause of the their downfall in the House of M. Layla later escaped when Pietro became hesitant about killing her.
After his fight with Layla Miller, Pietro was found unconscious in Central Park. Not knowing who he was, the police threw Pietro in general lock up where he experienced a series of hallucinations: His sister, his father, his wife and child, and Layla Miller who explained that Pietro had hit rock bottom and hinted that he was still a mutant. From the windows of the prison Pietro observed a woman in the process of being pushed off a roof by her boyfriend. Using his super speed, broke out of prison and saved her, coming to terms with his past villainous acts and looking forward to a better future.
