Pretty awesome story about how Marvel Comics helped a kid come to terms with his disability.
For all those who think that comic book companies don't have souls, check out what Marvel did for Anthony Smith, a four year old boy with a genetic disorder that severely affected his hearing. Smith's mother emailed Marvel explaining that the boy refused to wear his "Blue Ear" hearing aid as no superheroes wore them.
Bill Rosemann, Marvel editor extraordinaire, replied to Smith that Hawkeye, the famed Marvel archer, did in fact have hearing issues and sent the four year old a cover featuring Hawkeye with the hearing aid on.
However, Marvel didn't stop there. In the following weeks, Marvel sent Anthony two drawings of him as Blue Ear, a new superhero designed by the Marvel team. Marvel even gave the superhero catchphrases such as "When DANGER makes a sound, the Blue Ear answers the call."
All in all, a pretty cool gesture from the House of Ideas.
