Ghostbusters 3 Just Gives Up on Getting Bill Murray, Will Proceed Without Him

It's not like Bill was all that important to why people liked the first Ghostbusters or anything, right?

Source: Total Film (h/t Digital Spy)

The saga of Ghostbusters 3 seems to have come to an end, with Dan Aykroyd revealing that the production is going to go ahead and shoot sometime next year without Bill Murray in the cast.

The question of whether or not Murray would be in the movie or not, should it happen, was ongoing, as stories of the star waffling on whether or not he'd be a part of it kept hitting the wire.  There were times when Murray was saying that he'd be down with a good enough script, but apparently he didn't like anything he was presented with, so he jumped off the ship.  Aykroyd is taking it all in stride.  "It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill," said Aykroyd, possibly while managing to keep a straight face.

According to Aykroyd, the time is now to cash in on 80's nostalgia: "My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."

The new movie will be written by Etan Cohen, and Aykroyd figures production will start next year.

It's really a shame we won't be seeing Peter Venkman again, but anyone who's followed Murray's career arc could probably tell that he wouldn't want to return to the franchise.  Maybe Aykroyd should have gotten Wes Anderson involved.

In any case, we can always look back on a time when people didn't love Bill Murray so much, when he was in Ghostbusters 2, which kind of sucked.

If this is the case Akroyd and the cast might be the only people that actually go to the movie.

Yeah I can't see why the studio would okay it without Murray.

But that writer apparently worked on King of the Hill for a number of episodes and Tropic Thunder. So there is hope that it will be funny.

Still Murray's character was basically the main character of both films.

Murray was right. They shouldn't be making it.

This, so much this. A third movie right now scares the hell out of me as a major Ghostbusters fan.

Dude if Indiana Jones, Die Hard 4 and the Prequels taught me anything is you can't recapture the magic.

Murray's right on this one.

Tron 2 was pretty good.

Planet of the Apes was good.

Rocky Balboa was very good.

So it's not always a bad idea to bring back an old property.

As with anything if they can do it well, then they should.

I'm one of the few people who doesn't hate Ghostbusters 2, I saw it as a child and just accept some more of the goofier stuff in it. I think that the idea of the older generation passing the torch to a new generation of ghosbusters is a good idea and could be really funny. It's still a shame that Bill won't be in it.

I'm on the fence on this one. I wish that Murray could be in it but at the same time I will still see it without him. I overall wish they would just reboot the franchise and bring in new actors to play the same characters.

LOL. Well we all know that the thought has crossed their minds due to how many things keep getting made over and rebooted.
