Rob Liefeld Quits DC (Again)

The superstar artist quit DC comics (again) over Twitter, and then embarked on a massive shit-talking campaign.

Source: Twitter

Rob Liefeld, known for his tactful use of social network Twitter to interact with fans, employees, and fellow creators, has just quit his job at DC comics via a series of tweets. Rob started off like this:

Just finished sending my thank you's to DC personnel. Officially got off the DC52 treadmill this morning...

Scott Clark will be replacing me p. Deathstroke. Marat will continue the work on Grifter...I had a great time at DC.

For those not aware, Marat Mychaels is Rob's personal manservant. Think Jerome to Morris Day in Purple Rain.

I believe in what DC is doing, but had to preserve my sanity.

I walked off all 3 books. Can't wait to see any attempts to spin. I have every email.

Well, we'll do our best. He continued:

The 0's are my last issues. Thanks for all the love.

This represents a new record, as usually #1's are where he leaves off. HUZZAH!

This is the 4th time I quit in the last 4 months. This time it will stick.

Reasons are the same as everyone's that you hear. I lasted a few months longer than I thought possible.

Massive indecision, last minute and I mean LAST minute changes that alter everything. Editor pissing contests... No thxnjs

Last week my editor said " early on we had a lot of indie talent that weren't used to re-writes and changes..made it hard". Uh, no, it's you

The quick turnaround from "had a great time at DC" to completely MFing them, which took about five minutes, represents one of the fastest descents into shit-talking ever witnessed on the internet.

On a related note, the national unemployment rate just dropped .1 due to all the writing positions opened up by Liefeld's departure.

Omg I agree with rob. Another reason I roll my eyes at this reboot. How many creative changes are fans expected to put up with? I wonder how many other creators are suffering in silence?

Likewise, how many relaunched creative changes are Marvel fans, Image fans, Archie Comics fans expected to put up with? I wonder how many Marvel/Image/Archie creators are also suffering in silence? :P

This shit happens every day in every corporation. It's all part of Corporate Ass-Kissing and Politics.

How many people remember how it used to be, when you'd have no idea what happened until years later sometimes?

Though seriously this is THE problem with DC, editorial. I hate to agree with Liefeld but the pissing contests have got to stop. It's made the Bat books a clusterfuck in continuity. It killed Static. They should count their stars they haven't pissed off their true bread and butter in Scott Snyder. The moment they drive him away.. they are sooooo fucked. Though then again they are boned next year the moment Grant Morrison walks from Batman Inc and Action Comics. With him goes his cult and pretty much the Superman books.

I remember even talking to bk about this Sunday. DC is starting to reach the bottom of the barrel here in creative talent.Who's left from the 90s from Marvel they haven't used yet? Terry Kavanagh? Bring back BRYNE?! They've scared off so much good talent it's getting to the point that um maybe a change up on top is necessary. Because sooner or later there's going to some low selling books.

Marvel at least if they have this sort of thing we don't find out until a few years later *cough* JMS *cough*. DC it's like that time of the month to piss off someone and have them burn the bridge that allows them to work at DC.

Though then again if anyone creatively within DC who you want gone.. I'm glad it was Liefeld.

So, let me get this straight. They micromanage his writing over and over, up until the very last minute, yet no one says one fucking word to him about his ART? Excuse me, that's not right...his "ART"?

I think Didio secretly hates comics with a passion and is trying to bring the industry down from the inside.
