Plans are to bring Firestorm back to the fun character he once was
Source: CBR With this week's Fury Of Firestorm #13 Dan Jurgens takes over as full-time Writer and Artist. Although he has done both duties on previous titles he has never drawn Firestorm before. This wasn't a problem as he "got" Firestorm right from the beginning.
Jurgens plans to take this title into an entirely new direction from where he picked it up from the prior creative teams of Gail Simone, Ethan Van Sciver, and Joe Harris. Jurgens doesn't want to give too much away just yet but he did reveal that a few things were revealed in issue #0. Tying into that is the fact the title is now "The Nuclear Man", a change from the original "The Nuclear Men". Although Ronnie and Jason were both individual Firestorms since the reboot, Jurgens has reduced them to a single Firestorm again. Jurgens hopes that this will create some conflict among the teen boys while at the same time bonding them.
Jurgens also stated:
"I'm looking to recapture the basic feeling and elements that made Firestorm work in the first place," he said. "There was a time when Firestorm was one of the strongest characters and strongest sellers in the DCU. He represented a certain youthful breath of fresh air in the DCU and I want to bring that back. He's a fun character who tends to have fun, wild stories. That feeling has to be on the page and get across to the reader."
Jurgens also wants Firestorm to interact with the rest of the DCU; starting with a team-up with Captain Atom in issue #15. Jurgens thinks these two heroes will be a good match as they have somewhat simlar powers and are most likely much more powerful than most folks assume that they are.
