Cryptozoic Entertainment is releasing Batman: Arkham City Escape, a card-based strategy board game about Batman, in 2013. According to MTV Geek, the game is meant to appeal to casual fans of Batman, so long as those fans are super nerds who enjoy playing complicated-ass board games. This may be a miscalculation on the part of Cryptozoic, as the only people capable of comprehending these types of games are all probably either hardcore Batman fans already, or else Batman himself.
The cards in the game describe powers and abilities for Batman's villains or for tools in Batman's utility belt. One of the cards offers an ability called "Call to Oracle," which allows the player to draw two combat cards from the deck. The use of Barbara Gordon's Oracle persona tells us that the game is not set in DCnU continuity, which makes sense, as it is clearly stated to take place in the Arkham video game continuity. Still, we will use this opportunity to claim that this leaves the potential open for toxic characters Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain to appear in the board game, and then, in a few months, we will throw a huge fit when they do not appear.
"Damn you, Dan Didio!" we will say. "Damn you!"
Asked who would win the game, which is estimated to take about 45 minutes per match, most experts believed that, ten times out of ten, Batman would win, provided he had enough prep time.
"No one manages a board game card deck like Batman," said one expert, completely straightfaced.
Batman: Arkham City Escape hits stores in February 2013. You can learn more about it here.
