Keith Giffen To Revamp “Legion Of Super Heroes”.

Keith Giffen To Revamp “Legion Of Super Heroes”.

Beginning in February 'no one is safe!' This doesn't bode well for Karate Kid!

Source: Newsarama

Starting as regular Penciler with the February issue #17 the title will go through what Keith Giffen calls a "revamp on the run."  This issue also kicks off the Fatal Five arc that has been building for a few months now and promises to be "a big, huge, massive spectacle" that "not everyone is going to live through it." The Fatal Five will live up to their name as they bring dire consequences to the Legion.

Working with current Writer Paul Levitz they are aiming for a change in direction. This won’t be another reboot or another new beginning but it will bring a new feel and a new atmosphere to the title. The idea here is to get people paying attention to the Legion again — paying attention and talking about the book again.  In an article about Giffen’s work on the new title “Threshold” he commented that he also wants to add “fun” back to the “Legion” title.

Giffen stresses:

“I know we've promised that before with the Legion, and we've played around with so many reboots that the words feel hollow. But this time around, we're doing some really stunning things, but within the confines of the story, and we're doing it from the starting point of having an affection and respect for the characters and concepts. But it's because of that affection and respect that we want to make them even better.”

Below are the covers for issues #17 and 18.

How many times can you possibly revamp the same set of characters ...

Covers look cool. I don't care about the Legion.

Oh, yeah, "affection and respect for the characters," says the guy who hates a certain character so much that he has frequently said that, anytime he ends up writing the Legion book, he will KILL KARATE KID. :P

Giffen already broke the Legion once with the FYG. The fact DC is letting him do it again is proof that A)It really doesn't give a $#!t about the Legion B)DC is proof that Einstein was correct about his definition of insanity of making the same mistake over and over again, and C) DC is a intellectually bankrupt.

Aside from the fact that some of us loved the 5YG Legion, it's becoming abundantly clear that certain people will not be happy unless DC provides them with a legion book that is to their exact specification (and therefore only geared toward one slightly odd person).

Congrats, Nieto. You've just described just about every Legion fan around!

No, I described you. The rest of us (at this board at least) have runs we like more or less than others, but Legion-wise there's only one member of the lunatic fringe here.

1. Nacireman is insane, Giffen is perfect for this comic right now
2. No one will really care about past versions if this one is good

I can think of at least five or six creators who would be better for Legion right now than Giffen. Busiek, Niceza, Simone, Azzarello, Dixon (which sadly won't happen). I'd rather see any of them on the book instead of Giffen, who skews darker with Legion for some reason, at least post 1983.

Is that Legion HQ collapsing around Brainy and Dreamy? Like Levitz and Giffen haven't done that before. (See Legion #311)

Yes, but, when it comes to Legion you're not grounded in reality.

Giffen turned the competition's entire cosmic line around, which is why your objections are foolish.

Ok, Nacireman, seriously: Stop. Reading. Legion.

You're never happy with Legion.
You will never be happy with Legion.
You are incapable of being happy with Legion.

Just stop already. This kind of behavior is usually limited to alcoholics and heroine addicts. You have a problem Get help.
