Source: Warner Bros. Chooses 'Robotech' Director (Exclusive) Robotech, the American 80s cartoon that was a mashup of three separate Japanese mecha anime, has had a Hollywood movie in development hell since 2007. While still not out of hell, some news has trickled out that Warner Bros. has chosen a director for this project.
The director is revealed to be Nic Mathieu. While Mathieu has yet to direct a feature film, he is slated to direct two other films: The Wind (written by David Keopp) and The Story of Your Life. Both are science-fiction related. Mathieu has experience directing television commercials.
The Robotech movie doesn't yet have a release date, but has some notable names attached ot it. At one point Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back) was listed as writer for the film and Tobey Maguire's production team is still associated with the film.
