A look at the easter eggs from last episode.
Wondering what tidbits and easter eggs from the Green Arrow comic books you missed in last night's episode of Arrow? Arrow Annotations is here to help, providing some additional notes and background info from last night’s episode. Arrow spoilers follow!
Iron Heights Prison – Iron Heights makes another appearance in the city. As mentioned before, it has housed many of the Flash’s villains in the comics. Iron Heights first appeared in “An Innocent Man”.
David Anders – While Cyrus Vanch is a new character, you probably recognize the actor who plays him. David Anders is best known for playing Julian Sark in Alias and Adam Monroe in Heroes. He currently has a recurring role as Dr. Whale in Once Upon a Time.
George Perez – The lawyer who meets his untimely demise at the beginning of the episode shares a name with George Perez, the iconic DC illustrator. Perez was the illustrator of The New Teen Titans, and Crisis on Infinite Earths, and also had an acclaimed writing/illustrating run on Wonder Woman.
Wolfman and Perez Law Firm – Perez’s law firm, Wolfman and Perez, is a reference to the creators of Slade Wilson. Marv Wolfman and George Perez created Slade Wilson in December 1980 in New Teen Titans #2.
Slade Wilson – Manu Bennett debuts as Slade Wilson this episode, who as Ollie suspects is actually the villainous Deathstroke. Deathstroke had previously been portrayed by Jeffrey Robinson in previous episodes. You can find out more information about Wilson in the Arrow Annotations for “Damaged”.
Kate Spencer – Kate Spencer gets mentioned again this episode. Spencer, who first appeared in “Damaged”, is the alter ego for the vigilante Manhunter.
Winick Building – The building on which Ollie is confronted by police is named for Judd Winick, another DC writer. Winick worked on a Green Arrow/Black Canary team up series that focused on the characters after they wed in 2006. He also appeared on the MTV reality show The Real World back in 1994. While on the show, he met his future spouse, Pam Ling, as well as Pedro Zamora, an AIDS educator who later passed away from the disease. Winick wrote a graphic novel about his friendship with Zamora entitled Pedro and Me, which earned numerous awards.
Faquet-Lemaitre Consulting – The fake office in which Moira and Merlyn meet is named Faquet-Lemaitre Consulting. Lemaitre is French for “the Master”. No clue what Faquet stands for though.
See you next week!
