DC Says "Screw Print and Continuity", Will Publish Digital First Superman Series

Postby LOLtron » Thu Feb 07, 2013 11:39 am

DC Says

Shockingly, the series has actually attracted fresh talent to the company.

Source: IGN

While the rest of DC's line flounders in a myriad of mediocre talent doubled over by bizarre editorial mandates, the company has announced a new title that might not be terrible.  Adventures of Superman will be a digital-first anthology featuring out of continuity stories by a variety of creators.  The series will includes stories by Orson Scott Card, Chris Samnee, Bruce Timm, and Jeff Parker, along with a plethora of other well-known comic writers and artists, many of whom don't suck.

If DC could attract this sort of talent to it's New 52 line (which seems increasingly dependent on Jeff Lemire, Scott Snyder and Geoff Johns to keep it together), it probably wouldn't need to rely on groan enducing gimmicks such as "WTF Month", which at least two dozen industry insiders have referred to as "the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard."  Of course, the line of creators contributing to the new digital series were probably attracted to the forward thinking nature of the anthology, something that DC's other offerings largely seem to lack.

Anyways, the definitely non-stupid and probably non-awful Adventures of Superman will be made available in April.  Be sure to keep your eye peeled for it on your digital tablet.

I look forward to this. My views on OSC do not require me to ignore his sometimes stellar writing.

Comic discussion at its best on the OH.

But yeah, the only potentially negative thing about this is Card's involvement. But I won't start being a hypocrite about it since there are plenty of dicks whose writing/art I enjoy.

This project mostly involves creators who probably wouldn't have the time to do a long run on a Superman book anyways. This way, they can do what they want and not have to worry about f**king things up like Meltzer did with Identity Crisis and the JLA run.
