The normally lovable anthromorphic raccoon attempts child murder in this first look at Jeph Loeb's Nova #2.
Source: Press Release
Marvel Comics has sent out a first look at Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Nova #2, and though it's only two pages and nothing is lettered, it's pretty clear that the plot of this comic features Rocket Raccoon attempting to murder the child Nova, Sam Alexander.
There are conflicting theories as to why Rocket is suddenly interested in killing children. One theory is that Rocket Raccoon is a hardcore fan of previous Nova, Richard Rider, with whom he served as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. As such, he feels that Sam Alexander is a disrespectful attempt to shoehorn Jeph Loeb's cartoon abominations into the Marvel Comics universe.
Another theory proposes that the child bloodlust that drives Marvel's feral Mary Sue, Wolverine, has become a contagious airborne disease, and other characters have become infected. This would certainly explain Thor's desire to punch children in the stomach during Avengers vs. X-Men. If the surly mutant had transmitted the virus to him during their time together on the Avengers, and Thor frequently travels through space, where the Guardians of the Galaxy live, Thor could have passed it on to Rocket Raccoon easily enough.
There's no telling where the disease will spread next, and which Marvel heroes will suddenly be overcome with a desire to murder children in cold blood. All we know is that this callous disregard for innocent human life has worked wonders for Wolverine's marketability, so we can expect the disease to quickly spread throughout Marvel's entire superhero community, much like the herpes virus, which also originated from Wolverine.
While these theories are plausible, nothing is set in stone yet, so we'll just have to wait until the comic hits stores on March 20, and someone who doesn't mind giving Jeph Loeb money, which he will undoubtedly put toward further destroying Marvel's beloved animated universe, reads it and tells us what happens. Until then, enjoy the pages below.
