Based on previews, I can't see what's so great about Hawkeye to the level of "best book Marvel is publishing right now" I keep hearing about it. Maybe instead of Hawkeye really stepping forward in quality, the rest of the line all stepped back a pace instead. Or, the previews don't reveal its greatness.

It reads like episodic television, maybe that's the appeal after years of relentlessly self-indulgent Bendisisms. Bendis's comics read more like extremely long, student-directed high school plays with dialogue to make you laugh derisively at all the wrong places.

Hawkeye is awesome mostly because of Aja's artwork, I wasn't feeling #4 nearly as much, no offense to Pulido, who is good, but I just love Aja, as my avatar will attest to.

It's still enjoyable, but I still think Daredevil is Marvel's best book.

And Bendis is awesome! Have you been reading All-New X-Men?

David Aja is quite talented, and brings an added level of well-considered design lacking in many modern superhero comics to the covers and panels I've seen from Hawkeye, that's true. I'd like to read the books and have a more fully informed opinion of them, but not for that much cash money. Especially not after this week of feeling burned or just plain let down by weekly comics.

And no way! to reading any more Bendis. I like the guy, he seems funny and nice, his tweets usually serve to highlight others in the industry rather than his own work, I have nothing against him except how his writing style has developed over the last 5 years.

I think my favorite Bendis run is still Avengers Disassembled, actually. I still have them despite selling most of his later comics I bought. They are just so balls out crazy. Stuff happens so fast and out of the blue. Everything in spirit that Secret Invasion should have been.

as nice as Hawkeye looks, as long as Fraction's name is on it I can't bring myself to spend money on it
