That Foss cover is terrible. It looks like a MAD Magazine parody

It truly is pathetic for a cover (even a variant) for a top ten book.

Now if there's was announcement about DC letting fan art be their variants that I never heard, I will respectfully withdraw my above comment (but until then - it really is awful).

I never heard of Langdon Foss before this. I had to Google him to find out who he is and what he's done before.

I guess I am somehow missing the variant cover you are talking about, but DC did say they will be doing some Mad style variant covers for DC, so...maybe it really is done by Mad.

I agree. Maybe Morrison can give johns some tips? Or maybe johns can go read his old jsa issues. It does seem better but that's not saying much

Oh, yeah. That is rough. I just kind of glanced at it at first, but when you really look at it...hmmm. Not pretty. :|

Whatever slump Johns has been in he's clearly broken out of it. There are a lot of good moments in this issue. Listed some of my faves in the spoiler space below. Too bad the Shazam back-up story takes up pages that could be devoted to more in this story. And Reis does some amazing art in this issue as well :smt023

Tula makes a cameo.
The League vs Aquaman vs Orm.
Orm makes great use of lightning and all that water.
T.O. Morrow wanting to bring his weather machine on-line: gotta be Red Tornado. The mention of the Monitor Machine and tech from another dimension must be them viewing Earth 2 and that female Red Tornado.
Cyborg activates the back-up team recruits.

I'm sure I'll get called a gushing DC fan-boy for this

Since I will not be buying this issue but I will buy Aquaman next week, is there any way we can get a few more detailed spoilers so I won't be lost when I read Aquaman?

Other comments at Comic Book Movie as well

Because of Dr Chin's research of Atlantis and Arthur, Vic goes in search of Dr Chin and battles 3 Atlantean soldiers, including one called Tula.
Meanwhile Arthur tries to keep the League at bay, resulting in several big punches between him Superman and Diana.
Orms ground-forces rise from the water as Vic and Chin boom-tube up to the JL Watchtower.

Orm reveals that his helmet controls the oceans while his trident controls storms. (Unexplained strange storms were hinted at way back in an Aquaman issue, IIRC).
Orm subdues WW, Superman and Arthur by electrocuting them with lightning while they are in the water.

Up in the Watchtower, Vulko tells Vic that Orm has taken WW, Superman and Arthur prisoner.
Meanwhile in Detroit at STAR Labs TO Morrow tries to convince Vic's dad that they need to activate Morrow's android "weather machine", referred to as "he", to combat the Atlantean storms.
Vic booms in and asks dad to install the Environmental Mode to his cybernetics however this procedure will hours so Vic sends out a distress call to the League reinforcements.

1) Element Woman is a stupid, stupid name, and a worthless waste of a spot that could be used on a much cooler character, namely Metamorpho

2) nice roster...wonder which gold...errrr...redshirt is gonna die before this is all over? hmmmmm......
