No X-Men:Odd Men Out? I expected you to be all over the unpublished work of Dave Cockrum.

I thought about buying Reign in Hell, but decided not to after flipping through it quickly. I agree with you: the art wasn't good enough.

By the way, Chap, maybe you could try something other than the DC menu from time to time. To push the food analogy further ... I like pizza a lot and I can eat pizza frequently, and there are so many different pizza varieties that I enjoy. Deep dish, thin crust, flax crust, veggie, all meat, spicy Mexican, to many to name really. And even though pizza is one of my favorite foods, I know that if I ate only pizza, day after day, week after week, I'd probably lose my love of pizza.

But maybe that's just funny ol' me.

I don't know why you thought Blue Beetle and Kid Devil wouldn't be an awesome team up, McKeever has been awesome with both of them and they are great foils. This issue just proved how awesome they are as a team.

I agree with the other reviews of everything but Catwoman, which I don't read. GL was awesome and really added some great new stuff. JSA was amazing and the art was even better (although it should have just been a regular issue that was oversized. If you read that book you can't skip this and it's so connected with the main story you can't use it as a jumping on point or anything). Trinity was lots of fun and Swashbuckler is cool, but will get really annoying if overused (plus one of my all time favorite villain groups showed up). As for Reign in Hell, I didn't dislike it as much as you but it could have been better and the art wasn't that great, mainly due to the coloring. I liked the back up a lot though and think that could be a fun story.

Oh and I'd also like to mention a couple books not reviewed by chap.

Blue Beetle was a good start to the new story and I felt that there's a good chance that the new team will work well on the book. I like how the supporting cast was handled, especially his family seeing him on TV. :-D

I only picked up the Black Panther SI tie in because I love Jason Aaron, and I gotta say it didn't disappoint. The story was a great twist on the "one last mission before retirement" formula. The people of Wakanda and the Skrulls both were made to look badass, intelligent, and capable of winning. I can't wait to see the wrap up.

heh, truthfully, it's tough to do when i only buy 3 Marvel books (and an occasional one-shot or mini). even tougher when i read stuff in my personal order of anticipation, and i usually do this as a lunchtime event, and i'm scarfing down only 3, at best 4 books during my lunch break.

this week when i did the whole thing instead of just 3 or 4, it just happened to be a week where zero Marvel books made my buy list.

OTOH, i have promised to do Cap and Spider-Girl next time they come out, i'll also throw out Iron Fist next time it's out since the new creative team's first issue wasn't nearly the drop-off i was expecting, you can bank on me doing the Alan Davis Thor one shot in a few months, and after picking up the Nova: Knowhere trade yesterday, it's possible that book may get added back to my pull now that i'm probably dropping the Superman books soon, so maybe i'll throw it in down the road too.

that satisfy you?

oh, and i wasn't worried about them as a team-up, i was just afraid the story may tread slightly into cheesy territory. i shouldn't have worried; McKeever is writing the hell out of this book. :-D

and i can also promise, barring some shipping mishap at my LCS (which is entirely possible, and indeed maybe probable), that there will be a certain Marvel book reviewed in the Blue Plate Specials next week. i leave it up to you, gentle reader, to deduce just what that book will be. ;-) :-D

I guess I'll flip through GL to see if it's worth the effort again.

thanks. i'm all about pleasing the people.

waitaminnit, i'm nothing about that... :?

anywho, next week appears to be even smaller for me than this week was, so if you want some idea of next week's meal selections, it shouldn't be hard for you folks to guess what will be reviewed. :-D ;-)

I guess I'm also surprised the net feedback for Reign in Hell has been so lukewarm. I was never that interested in the idea but I figured it would at least be a good read for those that were.
