Dirk Manning return to the Pirate Podcast to give us tales of The Long Hard Road Out of Hell and Bad Romance.

The Outhouse Pirate Podcast had the special privilege of Image/Shadowline Comics creator Dirk Manning joining crew for our special Halloween episode. Halloween was a week ago, the lateness of this article is my fault, but is in part due my being in therapy thanks to Dirk.

Donning his signature top hat and scarf, Dirk enlightened the crew with tales from his series Nightmare World: 13 Tales Of Terror Volume 1, Nightmare World Volume 2: Leave The Light On and Nightmare World, Vol. 3: Demon Days. The Chronicler of Cthulhu read his prose stories 'The Long Hard Road Out of Hell' and 'Bad Romance' to those with the strong constitution to listen. Still, these tales of terror left the crew heaving in disgust only to wipe the vomit aside and sit down craving another tale of horror from Mr. Manning.

No, it was not these stories that put me over the edge, forcing me to seek professional help in curing my fractured psyche. It was not the Tales of Mr. Rhee that proved if you need help from that man-- there will not be a happy ending.

It was not Guest 9's brief appearance only to see him abandon all hope and leave the crew in a quest to find a Bible chat to cleanse his soul.

The terror that had me cowering like a child under my bunk, hoping that the sounds and imagery would go away... the terror that unknowingly haunts us is no longer a mystery to me. I now know that my life could be taken at a moment's notice by the information Dirk had passed surreptitiously on to his faithful listener. The desire to extract this knowledge from my brain is unbound. I must unlearn and go back to the ignorance that I was so blissfully proud of.

I had to unlearn.

I had to cleanse my own soul as Guest 9 so rightful desired.

I had to disremember the two hours, thirty minutes and twenty-two seconds of Dirk's time with the Pirate Podcast Crew.

I had to find a way to let slip from my memory the horror.

A week and a half has gone by since Mr. Manning's tales and life aboard the ship has returned to normal. After seeing therapy, I no longer have the desire to put a drill bit to my temple to excise the horror. Though there are times if one listens very closely to the interaction between the crew members there is a hint of trepidation in their voice wondering if one of them could be a part of the Cthulhu Wiggles.
