Paramount has pushed back the release date of GI Joe Retaliation from June 29, 2012 to March 29, 2013, which is not forboding in the slightest.
Fans who were excited for the upcoming GI Joe sequel based on trailers that screened before The Avengers in theaters may be disappointed to learn that the movie will not be in theaters next month as advertised. GI Joe: Retaliation, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, is being pushed back to next year, which, contrary to all instincts, is not an indication that the movie is an epic disaster that needs major work before it can be released to a general audience.
In most cases, a delay this huge for a movie that has already been filmed would suggest that the movie has tested poorly and requires serious revision to avoid being a total flop at the box office, but Paramount is actually attributing the delay to 3D conversion. "If the movie is not in 3D, it will not make as many bazillions of dollars (paraphrased)," said a Paramount insider in an uncharacteristically candid statement.
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is bullets bouncing off The Rock's ample pecs in glorious, $20-a-ticket 3D.
