I actually think Prometheus opens at number 2 with MiB at 3 and Avengers back on top with something like 30 mil.

I'm excited for it but the marketing hasn't really let on that has anything to do with the Alien franchise and that will sink it for the people who hear the words Men in Black 3 and instantly know what it's talking about.

I know. I just had to explain what the movie is to a friend over the weekend... he was killing me with lack of interest...
For me, it'll be the most intelligent of the group... not that it's a brainy film, but still. MIB is an overgrown Saturday morning cartoon. Avengers... sort of them same, but more YJ then Teen Titans if you follow my drift.

I'm excited for Prometheus, but I don't think it's going to be a Box office smash.

Sorry dude but I have less interest in Prometheus than I did MiB3. I think the last Aliens movie killed any interest I have in the franchise altogether.

Men In Black will not be #1 the week Prometheus opens, and honestly Snow White and the Huntsman might end up being #1 this week.
Prometheus doesn't open until next week, and will be #1 that week. It won't be a giant movie or anything, but I think it will make over $40 million, which is good for modern summer movies that are in 3D.
So basically, all the arguments about Prometheus unseating MiB3 are pointless.
edit: And so was that argument. Prometheus will probably open at or over $40, but will be #2 that week, since I just noticed that Madagascar 3 opens that week. That will win the weekend, and with the lack of recent kid movies will probably break $60 million at least.

Given the fact that both MIB 3 and the Avengers are Marvel movies, this has been a very good year for Marvel movies-aside from that lame Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance abomination. Now all that remains for the Amazing Spiderman to do well and Marvel will be all set for this year.
On a separate note, why the hell is Marvel not promoting MIB 3 like all its other movies this year? Given the fact that MIB was once part of its Malibu imprint, wouldn't this be a good reason to resurrect that franchise? If Marvel had any brains, they would consider that instead of just leaving that imprint in limbo when they still can make money off of it.
