Valiant Entertainment Promotes Diversity in Comics with New Character!

Postby LOLtron » Wed Jun 20, 2012 2:00 pm

Valiant Entertainment Promotes Diversity in Comics with New Character!A blonde white woman?  In comics??  You don't say!!

Over the last fifteen years, there has been a visible effort to diversify comics in order to appeal to every possible fan demographic.  From "buxom lipstick lesbians" to armored Chinese warriors, comic books have introduced a plethora of characters from every age, gender, race and creed.

Valiant looks to continue the trend with in their revival by introducing a character featuring two very rarely featured traits: blonde hair and white skin.

In an appropriately brazen show of defiance of societal norms in comics, Valiant has titled their new teaser "Are You Different?"  Or, that could just be referring to the fact that this character, named "Zephyr," has superpowers.  Which, come to think of it, isn't all the different for comics either.  But it is different for a new universe like the relaunched Valiant.

Ohh, now we get it.

Anyway, here's the press release featuring the teaser:

Are you different? Meet Faith Herbert this September, only in Harbinger #4.

New heroes. New beginnings. Coming this fall from Valiant.

The original Zephyr was portly. I wonder if they'll keep that up.

I've got no problem with white, straight blonde women as characters, as long as it's integral to the story.

Would have been a better cover if it was a Fat Girl Angle Shot.

She looks like that one chick from Glee. Not the fat one.

Seriously, I would have had no idea that girl on the cover is supposed to be "portly" at all.
