A special panel at San Diego's Comic Con International will celebrate nine years since Firefly was canceled, and the lives of the show's fans lost all meaning.
Browncoats, otherwise known as
Firebronies, are hardcore fans of the Joss Whedon show
Firefly, which ran for one season before meeting a much deserved demise. The Browncoats have spent the following decade demanding the show be brought back on the air, and that the show's star Nathan Filion be cast as every superhero in every movie ever made. The fans even attempted a campaign to purchase the rights to the show so that they could give it to Filion, wasting so much effort on this futile cause that they allowed another Whedon show,
Dollhouse, to also fail miserably after only one season.
It looks like the sad desperation will continue at
San Diego Comic Con this year, as the show will be hosting a
Firefly 10th Anniversary Panel, according to a facebook post by Tim Minear, the show's executive producer. There is no word yet on who might host the panel, but the audience will definitely be filled with sad individuals who, nine years later, still cannot let go.
Some might find this propect depressing, but
The Outhouse likes to try to put a positive spin on things. As a result, we will be initiating a new
Scared Straight program at
SDCC, where we will take current pathetically obsessed fanboys, such as those decrying the death of the old
DC Universe with last years DC reboot, or disgruntled fans of
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and bringing them to the panel to spend some time with their potential future selves. Upon seeing such a sad and worthless gathering of the worst that humanity has to offer, we are hoping that some of these fanboys will be able to turn their lives around and find something productive to do with their time.
Hopefully, we can make a difference and convince people to move on. If we can save just one fanboy from a decade of torment and unfulfilled cravings for a product that was never that good in the first place, we will have done our job.
