Shocking development in the This is War teaser story.
This week, Marvel released a series of teasers, leading people to believe that they were promoting a new event right on the heels of
Avengers vs. X-Men.
The Reckoning War (a planned event written by Slott, Ultron War (hinted at in Bendis' Avengers) and
Boston War (Captain America declares war on Boston after eradicating the mutant threat) were all suggested as answers.
However, today they revealed that all that build up was for
Punisher War Zone, a new/old title that will either feature the Punisher killing heroes that don't matter, or take place in an alternate Universe that everyone will forget about by this time next year. Presumably, the storyline of the book will focus on Frank Castle's jealousy and frustration with the fact that all of those other characters are serviced with quality writing and production in their movie adaptations, while various attempts at Punisher movies are treated with about the same seriousness as Howard the Duck
Earlier in the week, Stephen Wacker criticized the internet on Twitter about websites that call his company's marketing campaign "lame", so instead we'll simply say this: what a fantastic idea.
We're glad that Marvel has decided to publish the tenth volume of a series repeatedly cancelled due to low sales and a lack of real juicy plotline. We're even more glad that the teasers show the Punisher hunting heroes, something that we'll know he'll fail at. The best part about this is that since Marvel didn't tell us what the teaser campaign was about, we decided to run it thinking it was a build-up to an awesome reveal instead of a second Punisher title that no one will read.
Congratulations to the person that thought this was
Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe 2: The Legend of Curly's Gold. We're sorry we didn't believe you.
