It's Wednesday already?

I've been working 4 day workweeks for about 6 weeks now and I've completely lost my ability to keep track of what day it is. Permanent 3 day weekends are , but 10 hour workdays are .

So another Wolverine series, eh? Well, as long as it's Jason Aaron there can't be too many complaints. I'm sure Marvel will just cancel the soon to be 'Dark' Wolverine book when this Reign rubbbish has run it's course and the 'Weapon X' series will be renumbered to 300 or 350 or whatever imaginary milestone is closest at the next opportunity for Marvel to pop you for a $5 comic. That reprint for that issue that you already have in a long box somewhere will make it all worth it though.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadshee of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.


Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.


If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

I don't know if I will talk about this in my review or not, but this issue bugs me. They take a top tier talent by Jason Aaron and put him on a Wolverine book, except they make a new one that is clearly designed to cash in on the movie hype. Meaning that we have a total of four ongoing wolverine books currently. This one is obviously written for the trade and has almost no reason for existing. I love Aaron and am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but if this is decompressed then should we not maybe get a double sized issue that develops the story a little, instead of getting the Origins treatment again where we get one tiny development an issue. This one doesn't even have a prolonged fight scene or anything.

Between the glut that the company puts out any how and then the fact that they are more expensive and offer little in way of compensation - file pages really, really, if I wanted that I would buy your silly ass index and hand books and atlas shit.

I wish comic book companies (especially the big two) would stop thinking for short term. Brian Hibbs talked about sales dilution in like his third Tilting Windmills and sited an article from ten years before that and here we are twenty years down the road and they still don't get it. They put out more and more books, or do silly things like make Amazing Spider-Man come out three times a month, but put all the avengers books out on the same day and all the x books on the same day to capitalize on the customer being in that day. You have to wonder how well one single issue comic monthly would sell verse its twenty competitors about the same character set. And when the economy tanks, instead of pulling back, they put out more but charge more. What the fuck are they thinking? DC is the same way, all the Kingdom come one shots and then six months later a fucking mini-series? How about not letting the crappy current arc come out, how about making the mini a fill in book in case Johns dies in a horrible accident or gets sick or just a freaking drawer story so that books can come out on time when teams get behind....

I don't really have a lot to say about this week's book. It's a Wolverine comic with the typical kinds of Wolverine stuff happening and nothing about it really stands out. There's a bit of Wolverine being Wolverine and some setup for the arc. Nothing about the issue justifies the existence of another Wolverine ongoing series

The art in this issue was a huge improvement over what Garney was doing on Skaar but still falls a bit short of his work on Amazing Spider-Man during Civil War. The colors felt a bit more muted than they probably were meant to, but that's maybe an issue with Marvel's printing process.
