I picked up Ultimate Avengers 5 on a whim at the LCS and read the first two pages that you see here and I was so disgusted that I just put it with the rest of my trash. :smt011

I really, really don't see the entertainment value in things like this. With 7 year old girls being killed by police I can't even fathom how writers and their artists can take any pride in this shit and dare to call it "entertainment". This my abe a really unpopular opinion but sometimes I think the comic code wasn't such a bad idea. :smt013

I'm with you. It's unnecessary. But then, look what happened to Lian Harper, plus of course we've just had The Lizard eating Curt Connors' baby. It seems to be in vogue at the moment.

This stuff bugs me too. I flipped through this at the shop and put it back after seeing that.

Curt Connors teenage son actually.

Still this was a pretty brutal scene in the comic book.

I'm with you on this one - I'm getting sick of *not* being able to share comics with kids because they've become so overly sexualized (I'm looking at you Fraction!) or overly violent - like this issue.

I understand having titles which are more adult, but why does that need to be the flagship titles?

I think a lot of it comes from the idea that gory or excessively violent or overly sexualized automatically means that a title is more "mature".

It doesn't.

to be fair Ultimates was never a title appropriate for children.

You should be glad you didn't continue. The next page shows the splatter stain on the sidewalk, and a couple of pages after that is a splash of JFK getting shot in the head.

True but it's not a MAX title either. If they want to go in this direction then take it to the MAX line.

I was wondering how long it would take the pre-pube crowd to show up.

Listen junior, I've seen shit in real life that would make your eyes bleed. So don't act like enjoying a violent scene in a comic book some how makes you tough or cool.

Life can be real shit sometimes and I think the only people that need their comics to illustrate that are spoiled little fuckers who have been so coddled by mommy and daddy that they've never even gotten a hang nail.
