Secret Six Runs Away with Latest Power Poll Ranking

Postby LOLtron » Wed Aug 10, 2011 10:20 am

How well did the Secret Six finale do in the latest Power Poll?  Click to find out!

In 2010, a weekly Power Poll was conducted at the Outhouse to determine the top comic of the week.  Unfortunately, the Power Poll was abandoned as its creator left for bigger and better things.  However, good features rarely die...

LOLTron, the robotic caretaker of the front page took the Power Poll's smouldering carcass and rebuilt it, making it faster, stronger and more aware.  For several months, the Power Poll lay dormant, building its strength and learning more about the wide world of comic book reviews.

Now reborn, the newly created PollTron has come back to the Outhouse, collecting data from reviews spread across a half-dozen different comic book websites.  Once a week, PollTron collects this data and aggregates it, assigning scores based on the total number of positive reviews gathered from its ever-growing database of websites.

The Power Poll for 8/03/2011

1) Secret Six #36 - 11.525

2) iZombie #16 - 6.455

3) Knight of Vengeance #3 - 6.325

4) Avengers Academy #17 - 4.25

5) Scalped #51 - 4.12

6) Severed #1 - 3.955

7) Punisher #1 - 3.575

8) Hulk #38 - 2.75

9) Mystic #1 - 2.74

10) Jonah Hex #70 - 2.49

Analysis: Surprising absolutely no one, the finale to Gail Simone's Secret Six topped the charts to finish off its strong thirty-six issue run. The title was almost universally lauded, with perfect reviews from over half of the sites that make up the Power Poll base. In fact, only one reviewer had negative comments about the books and even those were in passing. Secret Six missed out on Daredevil #1's high mark only due to a lack of reviews from two sources.

In second was Chris Roberson and Mike Allred's iZombie, which really benefited from getting positive reviews from the most sites most heavily weighed by Power Poll. Just falling short of iZombie was the finale of Brian Azzerello and Eduardo Risso's Knight of Vengeance miniseries. Four of Knight of Vengeance's six reviews stated that the Flashpoint miniseries was stronger than the main Flashpoint series.

Rounding out the top five was the latest instalment of Avengers Academy and the latest instalment of Scalped, which finished just a tenth of a point behind the Fear Itself tie-in. Only Avengers Academy prevented DC from sweeping the top five spots.

Top Overall Books

1) Daredevil #1 - 13.73
2) Secret Six #36 - 11.525
3) Detective Comics #880 - 9.735
4) Uncanny X-Force #12 - 8.07
5) iZombie #16: - 6.45

The PowerPoll will return in two weeks with an oversized edition. Thanks for reading!

there is no reason they couldn't have left Secret Six alone

How does this poll work? What reviews play into the ranking?

Reviews from CBR, the Rama, iFanboy, ComicVine, Comics Bulletin, Weekly Comic Book Review, and one other site that I'm forgetting all factor into the score along with reviews taken from IGW, Punchy and Starlord's columns, the Poll of the Week here and normal OH front page reviews.

Sites that score a book are usually done on a 3 point scale, sites that just give positive or negative reviews are given 2 and then I weigh each site based on the number of reviews they run and the average amount of positive reviews they dole out.
