Daredevil Earns High Score for Second Month in 8/17/2011 Power Poll!

Postby LOLtron » Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:32 pm

Daredevil earns the top spot for a second month in this week's edition of The Power Poll!

In 2010, a weekly Power Poll was conducted at the Outhouse to determine the top comic of the week.  Unfortunately, the Power Poll was abandoned as its creator left for bigger and better things.  However, good features rarely die...

LOLTron, the robotic caretaker of the front page took the Power Poll's smouldering carcass and rebuilt it, making it faster, stronger and more aware.  For several months, the Power Poll lay dormant, building its strength and learning more about the wide world of comic book reviews.

Now reborn, the newly created PollTron has come back to the Outhouse, collecting data from reviews spread across a half-dozen different comic book websites.  Once a week, PollTron collects this data and aggregates it, assigning scores based on the total number of positive reviews gathered from its ever-growing database of websites.

The Power Poll for 8/17/2011

1) Daredevil #2 - 12.725 (Last Month: 13.73, 1st in Week, 1st Overall)
2) X-Men Schism #3 - 7.7 (Last Month: 3.8675, 7th in Week)
3) Avengers Academy #18 - 4.0775 (Last Month: 2.245, 7th in Week)
4) Uncanny X-Men #442 - 4.075
5) Generation Hope #10 - 4.0
6) Avengers #16 - 3.49
7) Journey Into Mystery #626 - 2.41
8) Ultimate Fallout #6 - 2.365
9) Hulk #39 - 1.995
10) Zatanna #16 - 1.985

Analysis: Daredevil shines in an otherwise weak week in this week's Power Poll. Daredevil #2 scored an impressive 12.725, giving it the second highest score this month behind Detective Comics #881. Only Detective and the first issue of Daredevil has scored higher in the Power Poll. Mark Waid's book was almost universally praised, although most reviewers scored the second issue of the book slightly lower than the first issue.

Coming in second was the latest instalment of X-Men: Schism, which scored significantly higher. Reviewers were enthusiastic about the reveal of the reason behind Cyclops and Wolverine's feud and consequentially gave the book much higher reviews than previous issues.

Avengers Academy #18, Uncanny X-Men #542 and Generation Hope #10 rounded out the top five, giving Marvel a sweep of the top five. Three of the top five titles came from the X-Men line, although only Daredevil and X-Men Schism had strong enough scores to secure a spot in the top ten books of August. Overall, Marvel took nine of the top ten spots, with Zatanna being the only DC book to crack the top ten this week.
