So I picked this up mainly because I wanted to see if the last Shazam back up story was an aberration, unfortunately it wasn't.

I really thought the latest Avengers was a terrible comic, that is until I read this.

This is without a doubt one of the worst renditions of the league I've ever read. Almost every single character is annoying as hell and the way that Johns has them interacting as a group magnifies that factor by like a hundred.

I used to really like Geoff Johns, he was one of my favorite writers at DC, but, I can't recall reading anything that I thought was interesting by him since before Blackest Night. I think he might have the same problem that Bendis is having right now, he's not in his niche and he's overextended.

seriously, I for the life of me do not understand the point of this book...does Johns/Didio/DC/et al really think it's cool to write a superhero team book where every character is an unlikable douchetard? Flash is the ONLY member of the team who's even remotely likable as written, the Shazam backup is an abomination against that character's entire history, Lee has no chance at keeping a monthly schedule, and nothing interesting is happening. and just when i thought to myself "well, at least there's some small comfort in knowing J'onn is safe from this butchery...", Johns decides to shatter that illusion as well.

fuck this book. i am done.

I wouldn't go that far, counselor. Meltzer and Robinson runs were so shitty that they were probably worse than this crap.

even with the 3 issues of standing around and the abomination that is Red Arrow and the worse abomination that is the Lightning Saga, i'd still take Meltzer's over this.

and i'm one of the few who thought Robinson was really doing some interesting stuff up until the Eclipso debacle. i liked the way that lineup was developing, and i REALLY liked his Blackest Night tie-in issues. that stuff was LIGHT-YEARS better than this shit.

Robinson's run is definitely worse than even Johns's crap.
As a fan of the female Dr. Light, the Blackest Night tie-ins are an ABOMINATION.
