DC is getting a ton of attention for their announcement this weekend, and they want to make sure that you know that they know that you know that they know!

In a move worthy of the WWE, DC posted an article on their blog bragging about how they're working all you marks with their announcement about turning a major character gay. The article points to posts at a ton of other websites that are talking about the story, which itself is now apparently news, in a meta sort of way. The Outhouse has yet to figure out DC's endgame, but we're getting close, and perhaps readers can help. This is what we've got so far:

1. Turn Prominent Character Gay
2. ????
3. Profit

We are hoping to get to the bottom of this soon, because this reporter would hate to think he's slept with all those men lately for no payoff (other than the obvious one).

According to recent developments, the mystery character will be male. We already know the characte will be "prominent," and there is some debate as to whether the character has already been introduced in the nuDCU. DC is no doubt hoping that this hullabaloo will eclipse Marvel's gay wedding announcement on The View this morning, and so far, they appear to be doing a good job, with conservative news outlets like Fox News (who thinks it's Superman) and The Daily Mail (who thinks it's Batman) picking up the story with all the expected outrage.

While it's nice that everyone (aforementioned conservative news outlets aside) is so positively excited about this, wouldn't it be nice if we got to a place where we could have gay comic book weddings, characters coming out, and new gay characters... and it would be no big deal at all?

Well, perhaps not, as then publishers wouldn't be able to reap so much sexy attention from it.

Fixed.

Don't bother trying to figure out Dan and the Gang's endgame; there isn't one. As mentioned at the trope entry, this is another "ill-conceived Get Rich Quick Scheme that lacks the 'scheme', or at least a well thought out one."

Only for a few panels and aside from being rich and compassionate, we really didn't get a good idea who he is. I think that almost anybody on Earth 2 is a candidate at this point.

except we've seen both the Joker and Dick Grayson, both have been established as heterosexual characters in the New 52.. they've said its someone who HASN'T been seen yet. So anyone established already is out of contention for being gay.

He's not really THE Flash but there's still some recognition with people.
