I have just came up with my own theory as to why Cyclops is such a dickhead as of recently and it ties down to my belief that he is really a Skrull. Although I doubt that this is the route the writers will take, it would be the most plausible explanation as to why he is currently being portrayed as Magneto Jr. from where I stand. Perhaps after the Secret Invasion fiasco, one of the Skrulls who weren't captured decided to impersonate Cyclops and decided to lay low waiting for the time to strike and is using the Phoenix angle as a way to stir up another Civil War. Chances are, this Skrull imposter is feeding the whole Hope mutant messiah thing to the other X-Men to play them against the Avengers so that both teams can destroy one another as revenge for losing the Secret Invasion. As far-fetched as this theory sounds, this is the best way to explain the total bastardization of Cyclops currently from where I stand.

Cyclops will wear the Magneto helmet by the end of this.

If he is a Skrull, they won't reveal it in AvX. They are trying to make this accessible and won't go into that much continuity IMO.

as much as people are saying its out of character and stuff what's happening to Cyclops and his reaction, if you've been put in charge of the mutant race, and then your people get wiped out. and your wife dies. and your younger brother goes missing in space for a couple years. and your second brother you didn't know you had kills your father...

Cyclops has gone through A LOT of shit in the last few years... plus there's always the possibility that there's still some of the Void in his mind.

It's still out of character. You can explain why, but it's not something he would do under normal circumstances. And if he's not having a nervous breakdown, then all he is is a villain.

Eh, they don't need to be exactly like AoA. But Cyke having an eye clawed out would definitely push him deeper into villain territory.
