Watching this on Netflix and I don't get the hype. What am I missing?
It's not bad but it's not awesome yet either

Probalby you just had too higher expectation, or you were to high all together.

It had tons of potential and the first season was stellar (IMHO), its a shame it never got past the first season.

The show itself is really good, probably the only Joss Whedon that didn't need time to "grow the beard"

The movie is better after watching the show, I know this first hand. The first time I saw the movie I hated it, but after watching the show and then rewatching the movie I enjoyed it a lot more.

I do have some problems with the movie though especially after watching the show.

My friend's girlfriend was jockin' Firefly last week on a Joss Whedon tip. I think because she saw the Avengers or something.

Joss Whedon is an acquired taste, I think. I liked Buffy in high school but I couldn't really fuck with anything else he'd done for TV.

I think Whedon's best show is firefly.

If you haven't seen the series, then you're missing about 80% of the exposition. This makes the movie a little rough since it depends upon you knowing the setting, the characters, the situation, etc. I also saw the movie before the series and enjoyed it, but it wasn't until I saw the series later that a lot of the pieces and references I didn't get the first time made sense.

I recommend you edit that spoiler out since I'm not sure how much he knows.

Firefly / Serenity was the first thing by Whedon that I've ever enjoyed. I never liked Buffy or Angel, and still don't get the appeal.

Won't try to convince you it's great but I really enjoyed that world. I thought it was fun and had some really great episodes.

Janestown
The Final Episode with Early

Almost all of them were good, but some were really great.

Out of Gas was the best episode of the series.
The first episode with Hendricks was good too.

I hated the whole prostitute with the heart of gold thing they were going for though, that was always a little icky.

The cast was pretty perfect as well. Fillion was the best lead in any Whedon production, they all handled his dialouge in a way that wasn't cheesy, and it was the only show of his that was good from the very beginning. It is still a little sad that we didn't get more backstory on Jane or Sheppard Book.

It's been like ten years now so yes I think it is safe to say we'll never see this show again, but I still think it is sad that this show only got one season, and Dollhouse somehow squeezed out 2 being as awful as that was.

It's the women on the show.

That's it. Nothing else.

Morena Bacarin.
Summer Glau.
Ginna Torres.
Jewel Staite.
Guest star twice - Christina Hendricks.
