There are some major spoilers here for Iron Man 3, but they're so confusing it may not matter!

So today, someone snapped the picture below during Iron Man 3 filming, showing what appears the be the Iron Patriot, which means, probably, that the Iron Patriot will be in Iron Man 3. The Iron Patriot, of course, was Norman Osborn during the Marvel quasi-event Dark Reign, wearing a suit of Iron Man armor. Norman Osborn is also the Green Goblin, a major Spider-Man villain. Sony owns the movie rights to the Spider-Man franchise, of which Norman Osborn is a part, and so Norman Osborn cannot appear in Iron Man 3, which is made by Disney.

Some sources are saying that the person in the armor is actor James Badge Dale. Dale is allegedly playing a character named Eric Savin. Eric Savin, in the Marvel Universe, is the alter ego of Coldblood-7, a character that this reporter has never heard of, despite being a huge nerd. The Iron Patriot in the Marvel Universe is a villain masquerading as a hero and using the fear of the public to justify his actions in the name of patriotism. It worked because Norman was the hero of a prior Marvel comics event, Secret Invasion, wherein multiple Marvel characters were revealed to have been replaced by Skrulls, a shapeshifting race of aliens, but though the public knew Norman as a hero, we readers knew he was the villain Green Goblin. Nobody has ever heard of fucking Coldblood-7, so there is no history to create any of these nuances. Ergo, we can assume that the Iron Patriot will be similar to current Iron Man character War Machine, a friend of Tony Stark who pilots Iron Man armor for the U.S. Government, except, we guess, bad. Or not.

So there you have it. This reporter is confident that the above made so little sense, you will actually be more surprised by whatever happens when Iron Man 3 hits theaters on May 3, 2013.

Not that I'll be to heartbroken for that mind you,after having his cornrowed self all over the Spidey-comics for the last twenty years and almost one decade hamming up all over the Avengers thanks to Marvel's man crush on him had been more than enough for me.

Only depends how long it is in the film. Could be three seconds of screen time. Though post Avengers you'd expect the government to have an armor after what tony was able to show what it can do?

I wonder how confirmed the Iron Patriot thing is. It looks the most like him, but wonder if they'd use the Detroit Steel story instead or something.

I recall him. Deathlock clone, drawn by Paul Gulacy in Marvel Comics Presents back around 1989. He had a special car and didn't look like a burn victim. He showed up in Deathlock a few years later, I think. I believe they tried to link the two.

The folks at Latino Review have got an interesting lead on what is happening on the Iron Man 3 set and apparently not everyone is as tight lipped as the heads of Marvel Studios.

A crew member let it slip that, as predicted, Sir Ben Kingsley is indeed playing The Mandarin in the film but he will NOT be the primary antagonist. Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian will be the main focus of evil in the film with The Mandarin being more to the side of it all. Perhaps waiting for his time to take the spotlight in Iron Man 4?

Iron Man 3 is currently filming in North Carolina, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Jon Favreau. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
