Another casualty of DC's September solicitations is revealed in news that certainly does not bode well for Vertigo.
While Resurrection Man, Captain Atom, and Voodoo bit the dust in the regular DCU this month, Vertigo is seeing a cancellation of its own with Dominique Laveau, Voodoo Child seeing it's final issue at #7. DC has denied that the cancellation has anything to do with editors not feeling like dealing with the long and complicated spelling of the book's title, though this reporter is certainly revealed that he will never have to type it again.
The news strikes a hard blow against religious diversity in the DCU, as both of DC's titles featuring the word "Voodoo" meet their end in September. No word yet as to whether DC will replace the books with another spooky, animal-sacrificing zombie-religion-related title, but at least their crusade against Haitian culture did not go as far as Marvel's, who killed off their character Brother Voodoo in 2010, much to the chagrin of his one fan, Outhouse contributor Greg.
In advance of complaints, this reporter has no idea whether either of the DC books actually featured the religion Voodoo, and so in the name of responsible journalism, I am admitting outright to my irresponsible journalism.
The synopsis from the solicits:
In her journey from fugitive marked for death to Voodoo Queen, Dominique Laveau has run up against gangstas, gods, ghosts, and all manner of things that bump in the dark New Orleans night. Now, at what may be the end of the road, she must make a final life-altering choice and confront her most inimical foe yet: the truth.Check out the rest of DC's solicits here.Written or Contributed by: Jude Terror
