Thundercats Cancelled?

Postby LOLtron » Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:15 am

MTV Geek is speculating that the Cartoon Network show has been cancelled.

MTV Geek is reporting that today's episode of Thundercats, the Cartoon Network remake of the popular 1980's cartoon show, is likely the show's last.  While the show's demise has been speculated since March, when Cartoon Network left the show off the list of returning programs for their 2012-2013 season.  It's widely believed that the show failed due to poor scheduling and an inability to find a wide demographic.

However, not all hope is lost.  Fans are desperately trying to rally to save the show from Mumm-Ra's evil grip.  A petition has been created on Change.org (remember when that website was all about social activism?) to save the show, leading cosplayers to rally to their cause.  To check out the petition, click here.  Or, you can just ogle their...interesting photo campaign below.

Petition. Have they ever worked?

Sucks, seems like all the cartoon I watch don't seem to last.

I think it may also have to do with the Japanese studio doing the animation. Most shows only go around 13 to 26 episodes these days over there. If popular enough, they come back with another season. Thundercats hits 26 this weekend. So...

Pity that it most likely will not continue with a second full season as well as third one. Bengalia, Lynx-O and other characters would have been great to see.

I liked the show okay but it was full of wasted potential. I think it had a fantastic premiere and very middling quality since then.

DAMN YOU

Shame. Today's show has some pretty nice animation in it. And there is still a bit of story left to tell.

I thought this show was confirmed for 52 episodes and they already had the writing and voice work done. :smt017

Thats what I thought. Maybe it's not on the schedule cause the animation isn't done yet. I swear just a few weeks ago producers said they were greenlit for the last 26 episodes.

Well if they did, misac made them blow it all up.

Very bland show that could only be enjoyed through nostalgia-tinted glasses.

Guess what? This week Lion-O will learn the lesson of the importance of being humble. Again. And again and again and again.

With as many go-and-fetch-it quests as this show had, they should probably have used cartoon dogs instead.

I didn't really see him learning humility this week. What do I know though? I only see things via nostalgia.

I really enjoyed the premiere, and several regular episodes were pretty cool. But there were some episodes that seemed like they were written by an entirely different writing staff. I liked the overall setting, and some episodes, while simplistic, remained...poignant. Like the little flower people who lived entire generations in a single day. Episodes like that seemed like we were gonna see Lion-O learn the perspective needed to be an actual ruler. But at the same time, we got silly episodes about sand pirates. And whatever.

Just lost interest in the show. I will not miss it, as I am no longer watching it.

I don't know which week they were talking about, I just quickly picked my three favorite put-downs from the comments on another forum. I didn't really make it through a whole episode of the Thundercats.

Bummer. Might also explain why today's Season Finale seemed pretty final.

Yeah, they left one loose end with the 4th stone but no cliff-hanger really.

The Wily Kit and Wily Kat episodes were painful but I enjoyed the show for the most part. It just was really uneven though.

That episode was written by J.M. Dematteis, one of the finest comic book writers ever.
