Avengers: Operation Galactic Storm

Postby Keb » Mon Jun 25, 2012 3:44 pm

So I just finished reading the trades (I didn't read the Aftermath and What If stuff because the Quasar title was so irritating and the What If art looked ugly).

What was the whole point of it? At first it was the Kree and Shi'ar going to war, then it became something else, then it became a Skrull plot to destroy the Kree (was obvious that a Skrull was impersonating Araki from the get-go), then it became the Supreme Intelligence's plan to destroy the Kree. Then all of a sudden EVERYTHING shifted directions and became about splitting the Avengers in two groups: one that kills and one that doesn't.

And who the fuck is this Quasar guy? Aside from being a horrible Green Lantern rip-off, he was fucking awful! He was just as, if not more annoying than Eric Masterson as Thor.

Were all 90s comics this shitty?

Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

Before becoming Quasar, he was known as Marvel Boy, who became bonded to the Quantum Band Bracelets of the previous Marvel Boy (below)

Quasar under Mark Gruenwald was one of the best things that came out of 90's comics.

The only thing memorable about Galactic Storm was the fight between Gladiator and Thor 2. I still think it was bullshit that Eric Masterson was able to beat Glads, seeing as how Gladiator was owning him for the most part. If Living Lightning hadn't shown up, Gladiator would have speedblitzed him to Jupiter.

I'm going to chime in on the Quasar front. But i liked him from the old school days...

I thought that Quasar was a pretty solid book, especially when it went crazy in the latter years and touched on the New Universe fiasco. Seriously, that was a fun ride.

Yeah, I enjoyed Quasar in the 90's myself. Too bad he got stygmatized as a Green Lantern knockoff for the most part.

Yep, at best, it was unfairly underrated.
