Is Anyone Reading The Supreme Revival At Image?

Postby Cat-Scratch » Fri Jun 29, 2012 2:15 pm

I've been sort of up to date with it, but I'm not entirely sure I like where it's going and the Larson artwork is just not working for me. I miss Sprouce's art on the title. I also have to say, I wish both Glory and Youngblood were continuing the Alan Moore stuff instead of what we're getting. But how goes it for all of you?

I read the first issue of Youngblood and was actually annoyed at the shot they seemed to be taking at the Alan Moore stuff.

That and the fact that the issue was god-awful. How is Supreme?

It's okay, but due to the art change, it's lost some of the feeling. Also, it seems to be playing the final card in the whole meta thing with the various continuities. One issue alone was not enough to hook, unless you were a fan of the Alan Moore series prior. It in some ways seems like more 90s pre-AM Supreme then the great stuff AM gave us. Erik Larson is no Alan Moore and it shows, but he's trying and it's a good try. But it's sort of like watching a midget play basketball against an NBA player. I'm actually being left wondering if Alan Moore was really going to go this route or not, given some of the Alex Ross stuff that was released before Arcade Comics imploded.

It's interesting in that he's trying to give an Alan Moore story, but he's not Alan Moore. It's close to be as good, but... it's sort of like seeing another actor play James Bond when you expected a certain actor. At least this isn't leaving me too much with the feeling that the Bravura Dreadstar revival/endcapper did. Maybe not having Moore about could be better, but only time will tell.

If you enjoyed the Moore Supreme's, I think it's a good idea to check this out, but don't be too expecting of the same we used to get.

I couldn't even make it through the first issue. It was fucking awful, possibly the worst thing I've ever read, and I've read Bruce Jones' Nightwing!

I never read Supreme in the first place.

I read the first issue because it actually had an Alan Moore script and I loved his Supreme. Would have loved if he had written the next issue, which was to be his final and wrap things up. Not interested in seeing where Larsen goes with it.

You should read the Alan Moore stuff. Worth it. But if you hate silver age stuff, you may change your mind towards it or hate the AM run.

I wish it was being finished by Moore too, but... :smt102

I used to read my older brother's silver age stuff, but I generally find Moore somewhat distasteful.

Ah. Then don't bother with it. It was sort of a Moore doing a love letter of sorts to the silver age.

It doesn't really have any of the things you'd associate with Moore negatively. Its an unabashed love letter to the Silver Age and comics in general. Its the best Superman run I've ever read.

Yep, I agree. But All Star Superman is a very close second. Anyone who hated that book would likely not find much to enjoy about Moore's Supreme.
