Marvel to Reveal Origin of Thanos in Thanos: Son of Titan

Postby LOLtron » Mon Jul 02, 2012 7:06 pm

Marvel to Reveal Origin of Thanos in Thanos: Son of TitanAs part of the effort to make sure everybody is sick of Thanos by the time Avengers 2 hits movie screens, Marvel will be releasing a new mini-series dealing with his origin.

This reporter is always of the opinion that more Thanos is more gooder, so I'm totally excited about the new five-issue mini-series Thanos: Son of Titan that was just announced by Marvel. The series, written by Joe Keatinge and Richard Elson, makes an odd choice as far as content, as it will apparently be a heartwarming coming-of-age story about the young galactic conqueror.

"It is about how Thanos came to be," Keating told USA Today. "He ends up at the point where he's worshiping Death and destroying universes. How do you get to that head space where you're like, 'This is what I want to do with the rest of my life?'"

Little is known about the details of the plot, but the general outline is that Thanos and three friends learn the location of the dead body of a missing boy in a small town in Oregon and spend Labor Day weekend journeying to the... no wait, that's the plot to Stand By Me. We know nothing at all about this plot except that it starts out sometime before the events of Fantastic Four #1.

Expect more details to be revealed at San Diego Comic Con, or before then in spoilerific articles on Bleeding Cool.

I'm interested. Thanos sounds like an interesting character.

He sketched out a brief origin story during the last Thanos mini, as I recall. If this mini is based on that general outline, it looks very interesting.

Starlin is hit or miss for me, even within the same story. I really enjoyed his examination of Thanos' character in the last mini, but some of his characters and dialogue (like the Hunger) are just goofy. Same with his Death of the New Gods story, which I really enjoyed except for the fact that he decided to bring back that silly Anti-Life Entity instead of sticking to the version of the Anti-Life Equation that every other writer has used over the years (and which Morrison was using in Final Crisis).
