The Rock Confirms Lobo Rumors

The Rock confirms that he's in discussion to play the intergalactic bounty hunter.

Source: CBR

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson confirmed via Twitter today that he's in talks to portray intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in an upcoming film.  It was previously reported that Brad Payton, director of smash hit Journey 2: Wheel in the Sky, had been attached to the rather baffling project.

While a part of me wants to see a Johnson-led Lobo film just to laugh my ass off, the rational part of me is stunned that Warner Bros is this intent on poisoning their superhero well even further.  As Marvel prepares to launch sequels of Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man in addition to films starring lesser-known heroes such as the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, DC announced over the weekend that it would be releasing no new superhero movies after Man of Steel until at least 2015.

What sort of company believes that Lobo, originally conceived as a parody of Wolverine and the Punisher and whose popularity baffles even its creator, is a more marketable franchise than the Flash, Wonder Woman or even Aquaman?  Furthermore, attaching an admittedly enjoyable to watch but campy actor like Johnson only invites comparisons to Ghost Rider, a movie which was almost universally derided, especially as both heroes ride motorcycles.  I don't know what sort of drugs WB executives are taking, but I would very much like to try them.

If they keep it a comedy, it could work.

So it'll be a catastrophe.

I wouldn't consider Lobo a "super-hero". If they do it right he could just be portrayed as what he is, an alien bounty-hunter.

Although it could be a setup to cross-over with a future DC hero movie, though.

It had potential, but it could easily turn out bad, too.

Besides, I'd rather see the Rock as Black Adam, not Lobo.

So, remaking Hulk Hogan's cinema classic, "Suburban Commando".
