    Fuck You, You Fucking Fanboy

Outhouse video and podcast star GHERU gives his thoughts on the state of internet comic fandom.

You know what would be awesome?  To be able to have an adult conversation about comic books on the internet.  Now, I don’t mean in the sense that you can IM a buddy and say “Hey, did you read the new Guardians of the Galaxy yet?” nor do I mean this podcast, because lets face it, all this really is is a bunch of guys that have a standing phone call who happen to record it.  No, what I mean is that it would be incredibly awesome to be able to go into a comic book forum and not be surrounded by a bunch of fucking fanboys who have the conversational, debate skills, and basic manners of first graders.

You all know what I mean, you are sitting there, five to ten posts into a thread about the most recent issue of The Incredible Hercules and all of the sudden some one pops in whose only contribution is that he hates a certain character in the book.  All of the sudden, a thread that was fun and enjoyable is all about how this one person can’t stand a character in a book he doesn’t even read.  It’s the same with any Bendis thread, Deadpool, DC in general.

If you have ever typed the phrase “I don’t read this book, but” or “ I have no interest in this story, but” and then proceeded to give your ignorant opinion – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!    If you pop into a discussion about a character you hate for the sole purpose of telling people you hate them time and time again – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!  If you are at a party and someone says to you “I liked the X-Men movie” and your first response is to bitch about how it wasn’t true to the source material – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!  If you have ever said any variation of “well, back in Avengers #63 they established in the charter that…” to complain about something that did not even happen – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!  If you think that continuity is confusing and then cite a 10 year old interview by a writer who is telling people what they wanted to do as canon – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!  If you pick and choose what you think should be continuity then bitch and moan when others do the same – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!  If you have read over 12 issues of a comic that you hate and then blame the company and or creators for your lack of enjoyment or you read the book just so you know why you hate it – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I hate Superman; in my opinion he is a boring boy-scouty G-d man. Now, I’ll admit to some curiosity, sometimes if I see a rather long Superman thread on the Outhouse I’ll pop in and see if someone can convince me to try the book (it has never worked), but I do not see the need, nor do I understand the egotism that is needed to announce to people discussing their hobby that I don’t care about their discussion.

This is not limited to people shitting on other people’s joy, and that’s all this is, this is our hobby, not a chance to prove that your taste in super powered tights is superior to mine, but even places where debate and criticism is encouraged.  Go into any second grade class room, any sixth grade, hell any undergrad English class, and you will see more respect shown to differing opinions than any comic book forum.  Hypocritical douchenozzles who feel the need to insult and put down any differing opinion then complain to the overlords when the same happens to them monopolize conversations and debates.

It is not cosplayers, Robert Kirkman, or even shitty movies that hurt the comic book industry, its fucking fanboys who are so loud that they have convinced non-comic book readers that they are the majority, that Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory is the nicest version of comic book readers out there.  Instead of rewarding their behavior with shock jock status and “that’s the way they are” excuses fucking fanboys need to learn that contrary to popular opinion manners are not a sign of weakness, just because you have internet anonymity doesn't mean that you have to be an asshole every chance you get, shocking statements are not synonymous with wit, and that just because you can be a douche doesn’t mean you should always be one.

Basically  – fuck you, you fucking fanboy!

    About the Author - GHERU

RU, or as he’s known in the writers’ room: the cute one, is relatively unappreciated in his time.  RU’s YouTube show, RUviews is watched by literally multiple people every month and his Outhouse articles have helped line many a bird cage.  Before you send RU a message, he knows that there are misspelled words in this article, and probably in this bio he was asked to write.  RU wants everyone to know that after 25+ years of collecting he still loves comic books and can’t believe how seriously fanboys take them.  RU lives in Akron Ohio (unfortunately) with WIFE, ‘lilRuRu, and the @DogGodThor.  You can also find him on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, & even Google+ (if anyone still uses that).
