Your Monent of Tebowness: Should Tebow start for the Broncos in Week One? Is he "Already bigger" the

By Juan Cena in SWRT on August 17, 2010

Could Tim Tebow be the starter for the Denver Broncos by Week One  of the 2010 NFL season? Realistically, it would probably take a whole lot of underperformance  from Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn to bump His Tebowness up from the number three QB to number one. Mind you, Quinn didn't really help himself in the first preseason game, while Tebow ran the ball in for a touchdown. Meanwhile, the Bleacher Report's RM Herold gives his ten reasons why Tebow will start in Game One. Among the reasons are Orton and Quinn being underwhelming, Josh McDaniels seeing Tebow as his Tom Brady, the first game being in Jacksonville, and most importantly, the buzz from the Broncos' fans. Herold's fellow Bleacher Report writer Elliott Pohnl takes the Tebowmania even further, giving the reasons why Tebow is "Already Bigger Than John Elway." That's bigger, not better. And while the hype surrounding Tebow might seem bigger than the legacy of Elway, that doesn't always make it so. Tebow will have to start proving Pohnl's point based on his performance on the field in the NFL, not with his own college legacy. (via Bleacher Report)

Derek Dooley's headgear puts Vols' fans in a frenzy.

First Tennessee fans went crazy over Derek Dooley's hair. Now they're going ga-ga over his hat. His Hairness has been protecting his famous follicles from the grueling Tennessee heat with this Tilley Airflo hat shown on the left. Naturally, every Vols' fan wants one now. The trouble is that Tilley doesn't make them with the Vol's logo. That little detail was added by Tennessee equipment manager, Roger Frazier. Tilley apparently doesn't do college logos, for some reason. Too bad, the company is passing up on a license to print money. (via Go Vols Xtra)

ESPN's College Gameday  at Chick-Fil-A kickoff game. on September 4. North Carolina  in Atlanta will get to see if Lee Corso dons Ramses' head at the end of the show. LSU fans hope to see Mike the Tiger's head around Corso's neck. Actually UNC's fans probably wouldn't mind seeing that either. (ESPN)    Tennessee players want return of black jerseys. The Vols donned the black jerseys last Halloween, and Vols players would love to see them return. Bulldog players wanted to wear their black jerseys too...before the 2008 game against Alabama. Be careful what you wish for. (Go Vols Xtra) Zach Lee is an ex-Tiger. LSU QB Zach Lee signs a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. (LSUsports.net) Kyle Parker signs deal with Rockies. Deal allows him to still play for Clemson. (ESPN) Three SEC QB's on Manning Award watch list.  Greg McElroy (Alabama) and Ryan Mallett (Arkansas) are the usual suspects. Jordan Jefferson (LSU). Is Georgia in the wrong division?

Is Georgia in the wrong division?

By Juan Cena in SWRT on August 16, 2010

Team Speed Kills has some interesting analysis of SEC inter-division play. According to its statistics, Georgia has the best inter-division record, followed by Florida, and a tie between Alabama and Tennessee. So this obviously brings up a good question: Is Georgia in the wrong division? From a record standpoint it might look like the answer would be "yes." Though realistically, Georgia would probably have as tough of a time facing Alabama and LSU every year as they do facing Florida and Tennessee yearly now. So the winning percentage might stay the same or even get worse. And switching divisions would in all probability mean switching out Auburn with Florida as an intra-division rival. Because there's no way either UGA or Florida would give up playing the World's Largest (Censored by Dr. Adams). It would be a better deal for Florida in that case, since they probably wouldn't mind dropping facing LSU every year for Georgia. And that would mean Georgia facing a true Murderer's Row - Florida, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas - add Georgia Tech to that mix, and the Dawgs' quest for a yearly SEC title gets harder than getting  any easier. And Gerogia switching divisions would probably only happen if the SEC expanded eastward instead of westward, adding a couple of teams from either the ACC, Big East, or some non-BCS conference. In other words, don't hold your breath about it happening anytime soon. (via Team Speed Kills)

By Juan Cena in SWRT on August 15, 2010

(Big Tentacles is the SWRT look at the Big 10 and the teams it not-so-secretly covets.)   Buckeyes vs. Buffaloes? Ohio State reportedly negotiating  a deal to play Colorado in 2011. Since Nebraska isn't on the schedule (yet),  the Buckeyes needed  to find a soon-to-be ex-Big 12 team to face from somewhere. (Eleven Warriors) The latest on Iowa RB Brandon Wegher. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz told ESPN's Scott Van Pelt that Wegher is "working through some things personally, but we’re hopeful at some point here in the near future, he’ll rejoin our team.” (Black Heart Gold Pants) The NCAA has a little talk with Michigan. The NCAA's infractions committee met with Wolverine head coach Rich Rodriguez and AD Dave Brandon among others for 71/2 hours over allegations of improprieties  involving voluntary player workouts. (Detroit Free Press)    Illinois' Ron Zook and Minnesota's Tim Brewster are on the hot seat. Least. Shocking. News. Ever. (Dr. Saturday)  Why (Insert Big Ten team here) could win the Big Ten title, and  why they couldn't. Giving the the reasons each school could win the title, and conversely, why they won't. Dr. Evil Adams trying to mend fences with Vince Dooley supporters ?

Dr. Evil Adams trying to mend fences with Vince Dooley supporters ?

By Juan Cena in SWRT on August 15, 2010

UGA President Dr. Evil Michael Adams' choice of Greg McGarity as Gerogia's new athletic director is being seen as  more than just trying to a put the Damon Evans debacle behind the school. It is also being seen as Dr. Evil Adams' attempt to mend fences with supporters of former AD Vince Dooley, who staged a very public buy unsuccessful campaign get Adams fired after he refused to extend Dooley's contract. McGarity served under Vince Dooley before taking a job at Florida in 1992, where he eventually rose to the posistion of executive associate athletic director.  The Athens Banner-Herald's David Ching writes that while McGarity seen as an early frontrunner for the job of Georgia AD, his ties to Vince Dooley might  have been a little too much for Adams. However, it seems that Adams is now trying to patch things up with the Dooley supporters who tried to oust him. What needs to come next is to try to publicly mend fences with Dooley himself, especially with Vince's son Derek coaching division rival Tennessee. Pictures of Vince Dooley in frosted orange might be a little too much for Bulldog fans. (via Athens Banner-Herald)

(Covering Dixie Like Mildew is the SWRT roundup of SEC and ACC news, with the occasional pesky Southern school from another conference.)    New AD Greg McGarity is the right man for Georgia. Because Tony Barnhart says so. (Mr. College Football) Nick Saban not to pleased with Tide's kickers and punters. Saban gives mixed reviews to the performance of his freshman punters and freshman and sophomore kickers. (al.com) Arkansas freshman wide receivers dub themselves "The Fantastic Four." As none of the group is named Ben Grimm, Reed Richards, or Johnny Storm, I'll have to give that a resounding "No!" (Razorbloggers.Network, Arkansas Expats) Tar Heels cruise through the Caribbean. North Carolina's basketball team went 2-0 in exhibition games in the Bahamas. (Blue Vs. Blue) Recruits love John Calipari. As for the rest of the civilized world outside of Kentucky? They hate his guts. (A Sea of Blue)
