Score another dubious achievement for Craig James. According to SI.com's Richard Deitsch, the former SMU quarterback, ESPN announcer, and Texas US Senate candidate was fired from his new job as an analyst for FOX Sports Southwest after only one appearance on the cable network,
The main issue surrounding James' firing apparently has to do with the failure of FOX Sports Southwest to get approval for the initial hiring of James from the higher ups as FOX Sports.
"SI.com has learned that the veteran broadcaster will no longer appear on the network. Fox Sports executives were not happy with the hire by the regional network, according to sources, and the hire had not been fully vetted at the highest levels of Fox Sports management. A formal agreement had not been finalized, even though James appeared on FSS on Saturday night. "Craig James will not be making any further appearances on Fox Sports Southwest's football coverage this season," said a Fox Sports spokesperson, when asked for a comment."
Deitsch speculates that FOX Sports management may not have been happy with James' hire due to anti-gay comments he made on the campaign trail during his unsuccessful run for the Texas U.S. Senate seat eventually won by Ted Cruz.
