Vanderbilt dismisses WR Chris Boyd after guilty plea related to ongoing rape case.

Vanderbilt has dismissed wide receiver Chris Boyd from the Commodores football and athletic programs. Boyd recently plead guilty to reduced charges that he tried to cover up the alleged rape of a women by four former Vanderbilt football players.

Beth Fortune, Vanderbilt's Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs released the following statement about Boyd's dismissal.

"Vanderbilt's athletic administration, in conjunction with its head football coach, today dismissed Chris Boyd from the university's football team and athletic program. The action came after an ongoing review that included information disclosed during a hearing Sept. 13 in Davidson County Criminal Court.

The review concluded that Mr. Boyd's admitted actions are clearly inconsistent with the high standards of behavior expected of our student-athletes."

Boyd plead guilty on reduced charges of "misdemeanor charged of accessory after the fact" on Sept. 13, and received a sentence probation for  11 months and 29 days. Four other Vanderbilt players are still awaiting trial on charges of rape.
