The AP is reporting that one current and one former member of the University of Texas Board of Regents spoke in January to the agent of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban about the possibility of replacing Texas HC Mack Brown. This is said to have been place a few days after Saban led Alabama to a victory over Notre Dame in the BCS title game on Jan. 7.

The regents named by the AP are current Regent Wallace Hall and former regent Tom Hicks. They reportedly spoke with Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton on the phone sometime after Jan 7.

Hicks also reportedly approached Brown about retiring a few days later.

AP reporter Jim Vertuno does not say whether the two regents acted on behalf of the University of Texas, or contacted Saban's agent on their own.

Brown has gotten on the Hot Seat recently after back-to-back losses to BYU and Ole Miss. He's also been criticized for the failure to recruit recent Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel.
