Tennessee has yet to beat Alabama since Nick Saban came to Tuscaloosa to coach the Crimson Tide. The Volunteer football program has been a disaster during the Saban era, and is now going through its third coach since Phillip Fulmer was fired in 2008.
Still, the Vols are 4-3 under first-year head coach Butch Jones, and are coming off an upset win over South Carolina. It's enough for Nick Saban to take notice.
"Right now, Tennessee is emerging as a very good football team," Saban said at his weekly news gathering. "In their last two games, they've had an opportunity to beat Georgia and beat South Carolina last week. I think Butch Jones has done an outstanding job there. When a team improves like they've improved, it's always the sign of good coaching."
While the Tennessee may not be as serious a threat to smash 'Bama's hopes for a third consecutive BCS title as its next opponent, LSU may be, the Vols are certainly on the level of a resurgent Auburn team to give the Crimson Tide a serious challenge.
