Wide receivers Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meander are being accused of second-degree sexual assault in an incident that according, to The Austin American-Statesman, happened on July 24 on the campus of the University of Texas. The victim reportedly knew both players before the incident. The details of the police report are linked here. (Warning: contains details of the incident that may be too graphic for some readers).
Sanders is also facing a charge with "improper photography."
Texas head coach Charlie Strong suspended the two players on Thursday morning. He also released a statement about the incident.
"We've been monitoring and addressing the situation with Kendall (Sanders) and Montrel (Meander) since it was brought to our attention. It's been made clear to everyone on our team that treating women with respect is one of our core values, and I'm extremely disappointed that two young men in our program have been accused of not doing that. With the recent charges against them, they have been suspended indefinitely from our football team and will no longer participate in any team functions."
University of Texas Bill Flowers also released a statement saying that an"internal judicial review" of the incident was being performed by the school.
