Because if you're going to spend $10 in a comic shop, you might as well get more than one comic!

Then quickly things changed, and comics were no longer $1.25. Suddenly they were $2.50 and came with a bullshit trading card I already had. Put a crappy Wolverine Hologram on the cover, and now they are $3.00. Make that cover two pages and it's $3.25. Make the Hologram 3D, and now the book is $3.50. The whole pricing point just kept getting worse and worse. At one point a comic book fan and affluent banker looked at me condescendingly through a monocle and said "Outrageous prices, you say? Perhaps if you would stop being so lazy and get a second job you could afford comics". Then he cackled like the Penguin and drove off in a Ford Escort trailing exhaust and laughter in his wake. Comic book fans all over cried out for a Champion. We needed a man so large in stature and girth that the truth could not escape the pull of the gravity of his conclusions.

We needed Jude Terror. For a time, things were good. Jude's legendary "5 Comics for Under $5 Dollars" articles were a big hit. At the height of their power, they did something that no one thought was possible. Jude's article caused DC Comics to reduce their entire line below the $5 dollar pricing point. Maybe it had to do with something else, maybe not. But something inescapable changed in Jude. Someone offered him money, and suddenly he could afford $5 comics. The internet cried out for help again.

I answered that desperate call. Rising from the ashes of the success of Judas Terror, I give you the phoenix reborn! Welcome to ALL-NEW ALL-DIFFERENT SAY NO TO $5 COMICS NOW!

Dynamite Entertainment - Z Nation #1 - $3.99

By Craig Engler and Edu Menna

Have you ever got the feeling that there are not enough zombies in your life? Well it looks like Dynamite entertainment is translating Syfy's Z-Nation from the small screen to comic book form. Don't let the solicit fool you, this book is a comedy as much as it is a horror book. At least when the main characters make a stupid mistake and meet an inglorious end you'll have a good laugh.

Here's the solicit:

A prequel set in the world of Syfy's #1 scripted hit zombie series Z Nation, Black Summer is as bad as the apocalypse gets. A worldwide drought and famine when most of the surviving population dies and turns zombie. As the remnants of humanity cling to existence, fan favorite Charles Garnett returns to send a new team on a desperate new mission: Retrieve a possibly untouched cache of the food substitute Soylent Z from Galveston, Texas. But when mission leader Israel Johnson and his small team arrive in Galveston, they'll face a threat unlike anything ever seen before in the zombie genre. Featuring Z Nation's signature blend of horror, humor and heart, Black Summer is the start of a new six-issue miniseries from acclaimed writer Fred Van Lente (Marvel Zombies, G.I. Joe) and Craig Engler, based on the long running series Z NATION by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler.

Aftershock Comics - World Reader #1 - $3.99

By Jeff Loveness and Juan Doe

Sarah has traveled to countless worlds, and they've all had one thing in common: Every inhabitable world she has found is devoid of life and bears the scars of a fallen civilization. What makes World Reader interesting is Sarah has the ability to speak to long dead civilizations. Join her on her journey to find out why the Human civilization seems to be the only one left standing... but for how long?

Here's the solicit:

NEW SERIES! Meet Sarah, an astronaut traveling from dead planet to dead planet, talking to the ghosts of the dead worlds... as she fights to discover the secret that's killing the universe. But Death doesn't give up its secrets so easily, and as Death hunts her from planet to planet, Sarah struggles to maintain the trust of her crew and her own sanity in the endless ocean of lives. Every world has a story, and if she can find the secret tying them all together, she can save Earth from being the next world to die. From GROOT and THE JIMMY KIMMEL SHOW writer Jeff Loveness and AMERICAN MONSTER, ANIMOSITY: THE RISE artist Juan Doe, comes the chilling, epic new series that will be sure to appeal to fans of THE ARRIVAL, INTERSTELLAR, and THE EXPANSE.

Action Lab Comics - Spencer And Locke #1 - $3.99

By David Pepose and Jr. Santiago

Spencer & Locke has such an interesting premise, I couldn't pass it up. Imagine the story of Calvin and Hobbes if Calvin grew up to be a hardboiled police detective. Accompanied by his partner and imaginary friend Spencer, he is forced to look into the brutal murder of a childhood crush. Though it may turn off hardcore fans of the classic comic strip I personally thought it was a compelling read, and enjoyed seeing this detective investigate crimes while dealing with his personal issues.

Here's the solicit:

When his grade-school sweetheart is found dead, there's only one friend Detective Locke can trust to help solve her murder - his childhood imaginary panther, Spencer. But when they face a vicious crime syndicate and memories from Locke's traumatic youth, can this unlikely pair survive long enough to find the truth?

Image Comics – Rose #1 - $3.99

By Meredith Finch and Ig Guara

If you enjoyed Meredith Finch's run on Wonder Woman, you'll be as excited as I am to see her writing a new fantasy book at Image comics and her story does not disappoint. For countless generations the Guardians and their magic have protected their world from the evil forces that threaten it. As time passed the magical Khatz on whom the Guardians depended began to die out, and soon a malevolent sorcerer queen rose to power with no guardian to defend the land. Excellent writing and vivid art bring to life the tale of Rose becoming the last guardian and attempting to free their world from the sorcerer's dark designs.

Here's the solicit:

SERIES PREMIERE A classic fantasy tale about a girl trying to restore balance to a broken world. Rose must connect with her Khat-Thorne-to become the Guardian the world needs. But things aren't easy for Rose and Thorne, the powerful sorcerous Drucilla has many powerful and demonic allies-all of them focused on stopping one scared little girl who's desperately trying to stay alive and do what's right. Written by MEREDITH FINCH (Wonder Woman, Little Mermaid), and drawn by fan-favorite artist IG GUARA (Batman: Arkham Knight, Blue Beetle, The Ravagers).

Pick of the Week: Boom! Studios – Godshaper #1 - $3.99

By Simon Spurrier and Jonas Goonface

Last but not least, I give you the latest masterpiece of Simon Spurrier, Godshaper! Godshaper is a stunning book that should come as no surprise if you're familiar with Spurrier's bibliography. Spurrier has a gift for world building that is highlighted by the vivid world he created. In a world where anyone can have a tiny god inside of them, Ennay is left without and must shape the gods of others. Working with the god of a deceased human, Bud, he plies his Godshaper trade for coins while his god-buddy robs them blind. It was a very interesting and unique read that reminded me of some of the lighter works of Neil Gaiman. I would definitely read it again as I am aware of no other comic quite like it. Rest assured the tiny god inside of you will be very disappointed if you don't pick this one up.

Here's the solicit:

Written by Eisner Award-nominated writer Simon Spurrier (The Spire, X-Men Legacy) and illustrated by breakout talent Jonas Goonface, Godshaper introduces a vast world where there's a god for every person and a person for every god...though for Ennay, unfortunately exceptions may apply. People like him are Godshapers, godless social pariahs with the ability to mold and shape the gods of others. Paired with Bud, an off-kilter but affectionate god without a human, the two travel from town to town looking for shelter, a hot meal, and the next paying rock 'n' roll gig.
