ScreenRant is reporting that Dr. Strange may play a "major role" in the upcoming Thor: The Dark World film, which would set the character up for a potential spinoff or role in Avengers 2. Dr. Strange, Marvel's chief magician in comic books, is rumored to be a colleague of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster and allegedly shows interest in Nordic lore in the upcoming film.
It's an intriguing, if unlikely, rumor. Strange is on the short list of characters to be adapted into film by Marvel and Patrick Dempsey has publicly lobbied for the role. However, ScreenRant even acknowledges that tying in Dr. Strange's origin with Thor is a bit far-fetched considering that Marvel's other movies have largely stayed true to the original origins. In the comics, of course, Strange was a neurosurgeon who lost his fine motor skills during a car accident and then gained magical powers during a quest to heal his hands. However, several items associated with the Sorcerer Supreme (like the Orb of Agamotto) were spotted in the first Thor film.
Anyways, what do you think is the likelihood that Strange will pop up in Thor: The Dark World.
