The Outhouse: The Greatest Comic Book Website - For All Your Comics and Entertainment News, Reviews, and Other Insanity

For decades, major comic book companies have faced a distressing conundrum. By producing multiple variant covers, they are able to trick retailers and even publishers into purchasing more copies of decompressed and gimmicky comic books than they actually need, but producing multiple variants requires artists, who are traditionally laze and barely able to even draw a single monthly book with one cover, to draw more. Finally, there is a solution!

 

Meet junior intern Vlad Kozinkerkov. He's a nineteen year old art student at NYU and he's also the uncredited artist behind the Photoshopped variant covers for February's Justice League of America. Armed with Wikipedia and a basic understanding of Photoshop, the junior intern has created over fifty different variant covers for DC's latest gimmick.

 

"They tell me, 'Vlad, go make flags different'.  So that what I do," said Vlad, speaking to us during his single allotted five minute break.

 

The variants in question are for Justice League of America #1, the brand new Justice League book written by Geoff Johns and drawn by David Finch. To celebrate Mitt Romney's monumental triumph over the evils of socialist Islam Barrack Obama's historical victory in Tuesday's elections, 52 variants will be produced, each with a different United States state flag.

 

"But Mr. Professional Comic Book News Reporter," you say, "Aren't there only 50 states?"

 

Sure there are, kid. Sure there are. But Dan Didio, a clinically diagnosed psychopath (allegedly), is obsessed with the number 52, so he's shoehorned the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico into the mix so that he can reference his magic number.

 

Justice League of America #1 hits stores on February 6, 2013. There is no word on how Ohio's cover will look, since the flag is shaped like a pennant, making Photoshop impossible, but you can check out three of the variants below.
